Fred Matthews, member of the Edmonton diocese's Indigenous ministries team and lay reader-in-charge of Church of the Nativity, Frog Lake, has organized a bus trip for members of the diocese to visit the Frog Lake National Historic Site, followed by Day 2 of the Frog Lake Pow Wow on Saturday, August 7. The bus is full now! But it is possible to travel in your own vehicle in convoy with the bus, as long as everyone arrives together at the Historic Site, where Fred has arranged for the group to meet with an elder to hear the story of Frog Lake First Nation.

Fred has provided directions for those travelling by car, and a "Beginner's Pow Wow Survival Guide" with tips on what to bring and what to expect.  There will be food vendors on site for those who want to sample traditional Indigenous food instead of packing a lunch. Masks will be required on the bus and everyone is encouraged to wear an orange shirt. Clergy are encouraged to wear their collars under an orange shirt. A Frog Lake company, Young Spirit Supplies, will be selling orange shirts on site at the Pow Wow.

  • Departure from St. Thomas', Sherwood Park, 4A Raven Drive: 8:00 am.
  • Arrive at National Historic Site: approx. 11:30 am.
  • Pow Wow Grand Entry: 1:00 pm.
  • Return to St. Thomas', Sherwood Park: 5:00 pm.
