Level 1 of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, for children ages 3 to 5, is being offered this fall at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, 125 Larose Drive, St. Albert.

This program gives kids an opportunity to learn about the Good Shepherd’s personal and unconditional love for each of us. It provides a foundation while continuing to guide children as they get older through the Good News of the New Testament by following the life of Jesus through a selection of parables.

In the words of Sofia Cavalletti: “We aim to allow the children the wonder of discovering God during each session.” Materials and images placed in a calm environment called, “the Atrium,” are designed to foster the religious life of the child by encouraging concentration and reflection, thus  “nurturing their natural capacity for contemplation.” (Gianna Gobbi. Listening to God with Children)

Trained catechists present the biblical accounts of Advent and Christmas, Lent, Easter and Pentecost. as they correspond to the seasons of the liturgical year. The Parable of the Good Shepherd, presentations on Baptism, and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit bring the joy of knowing that God loves each one of us.

Following each presentation, the children are invited to engage with the objects used in each presentation, ie. mustard seeds. For additional information or to register please email stmattscommunication@gmail.com.
