Bishop's Fund Dinner Addresses Food and Water SecurityBishops from Edmonton and the Arctic Host 67th Dinner Supporters of the Dioceses of Edmonton and the Arctic (District of Mackenzie) gathered at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton, November 14, 2018, for the 67th Annual Bishop’s Fund Dinner. In keeping with tradition, piper Kevin Thompson led the procession of Bishop’s Fund Committee members into the banquet. Chair Neil Gower, QC, introduced the members of the committee, which pays for all costs associated with the meal. No Room in the Inn is inspired by the story of Mary and Joseph, who arrived in Bethlehem to discover there was no room at the inn for them. Refugee Sponsorship Ministry Seeks Assistance
The Edmonton diocese is in need of a volunteer to help with our refugee sponsorship ministry. Gail Millard, refugee sponsorship coordinator for the Edmonton diocese, is seeking assistance with the process of submitting applications on behalf of sponsored families. This person should be familiar with computer programs like Adobe Premiere and Microsoft Office and be able to help Gail approximately one day/month, with the likelihood of more hours when she is away in January, 2019. Education for Ministry (EfM) in the New YearOnline Group and Mentors' Training Opportunities New online Group Forming: Beginning in January 2019, an online EfM group will be meeting on Mondays, 7-9 PM MST. Online groups follow the same format as in-person groups, making the program accessible to people outside major centres. Prospective students should contact Annette Cowan at efm-online@kootenay.info by November 15. EfM Mentors’ Training: A training event will be held in Edmonton in January 2019, running from Monday afternon, Jan. 21 to noon Wednesday, Jan. 23. This is open all members of the clergy and EfM graduates who may wish to learn about the program and possibly become accredited as group mentors. Interested people should contact the Rev. Robin Walker, Diocesan EfM Co-ordinator at robin_walker1948@outlook.com. Note that space is limited, and that accreditation requires attendance at the entire event. |

Together, we donated 133 units of blood in 2017, up from 85 units in our first year, so we increased our 2018 goal to 125 by December 31. Heartbeat of the ChurchPrayers of the Church - for the Church Archbishop Fred Hiltz invites parishes and dioceses across the country to join together in dialogue, prayer and reflection through Conversation Circles. He asks that each circle create a prayer expressing their "heartbeat for the church." The prayers will be shared at General Synod 2019, which is also when Archbishop Hiltz will step down as Primate. Reign of Christ the King Interface WorshipFriday, November 23 at 7:00PM St. Paul's Anglican Church, 10127-145 St, Edmonton, and Interface Worship will celebrate the close the church year and The Reign of Christ the King with an alternative worship service exploring the themes of 'God Rules From the Wood of the Cross' and 'Our Adoption into God's Royal Family.' The service will feature the extensive use of original symbols, rituals, art and imagery. The eucharistic liturgy allows worshipers to embody the themes in a unique sacramental ritual of enduring quality and significance. Interface Worship blends ancient essence with innovative expression to create spiritually formational worship experiences. This is the 10th presentation of this liturgy. CODA: A Memorable Musical Treat7:00pm, Friday, November 23 at St. George by the U of A, 11733 87 Avenue, Edmonton In 2017 St. George’s Anglican Church held a concert featuring our two musical directors. It was a great success, and such a musical treat that we are holding a second musical evening! “CODA” is a concert celebrating the end of the season and looking forward to the next one. You can expect a wide range of secular and sacred music, popular and traditional, performed by our musical directors, plus guest artists. There will be a reception following the concert, with good wine (at a nominal cost) plus cheeses, fruit and sweets. We will also have homemade Christmas cakes and cranberry Christmas puddings for sale. Stock up for Christmas, the cakes are already maturing in brandy. We hope this will become a St. George’s tradition. |

CBC Radio One Reads A Christmas CarolSaturday, December 15 at 7:30PM On the evening of Saturday, December 15, St. Augustine's Parkland Anglican Church presents a dramatic reading of Dickens' A Christmas Carol, featuring six CBC Radio One personalities. Long a tradition for over two decades in cities across Canada and originated by CBC Toronto newsreader Judy Maddren, this local version will be emceed by Lydia Neufeld, with the five staves of the reading presented by Mark Connolly, Adrienne Pan, Rod Kurtz, Kim Trynacity, and Janice Johnston. Holiday Train Supports Edmonton FoodbankMonday, December 10 at 7:45PM The CP Holiday Train will roll into Edmonton on December 10, 2018 at 7:45 pm. It will turn right at the Old Strathcona Arch (University Ave and Gateway Blvd) and make its way to 7935 Gateway Blvd. Festivities take place on the CP Rail Yard, South of the CP Station. The performance is scheduled to start at 8:15pm and run until 8:45pm. Edmonton's Food Bank will be on site collecting monetary and non-perishable donations before and during the festivities.
