Are you intrigued by the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola?

The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius have been described as "a compilation of meditations, prayers, and contemplative practices developed by St. Ignatius of Loyola to help people deepen their relationship with God." The structure of the Exercises is a progressive immersion in scripture and prayer: not primarily an intellectual study of the scriptures, but a personal experience of the life of Jesus through prayer. We grow in our ability to hear how deeply the Spirit of God is speaking to our spirits in the scriptures. The Exercises may be done in a 30-40 day residential retreat, or more accessibly as a Retreat in Daily life over a 35 week period.

At St. Augustine’s Parish in the east end of Edmonton, the Rev. Jonathan Crane, Ms. Pat Jameson and The Rev. Dan Ash are all trained and experienced directors of the Spiritual Exercises. They, along with Shelly King, who coordinates the network of spiritual directors in the diocese, are planning to hold an invitation and information opportunity on Tuesday, May 28, 2019. The aim is to recruit candidates for a Spiritual Exercises Retreat in Daily Life to run from September 2019 to May 2020. They hope to recruit two small groups: one for clergy and one for lay people. Having some experience in leading the Exercises in a small group format, they would like to offer that opportunity more widely.
