Christ Church Provides Weekly Hot Meal Hampers to Neighbours in Need
Our diocese continues to adapt and pivot during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. There are many stories of creative ministry in response to the new circumstances. I would like to share ours. Food security is an ongoing problem in Edmonton. Our parish of Christ Church has sought to leverage its resources to help the most vulnerable in our neighbourhood of Oliver (west of downtown) with weekly summer barbeques and monthly community dinners during the year. Shortly after the lockdown began we were approached by the Edmonton Catholic School Board with a request to support the school lunch programs in a few of their high-needs schools. St. John's Deacon's Cupboard Distributes Food to Cold Lake Families
St. John the Evangelist parish in Cold Lake recently received a $500 donation for its Deacon’s Cupboard program. The funds, from the Western Communities Foundation Community Food Nutrition Emergency Fund, have enabled St. John’s to purchase food locally and distribute it to single parent families and students. “For some people in our community food is a luxury,” says St. John's rector the Rev. Donna Gauthier. “Our focus has been on finding people who would be unlikely to ask for help. These are hardworking individuals and families who do not have enough family income to pay for rent, utilities and food.” Photo: Donna Gauthier (left), rector of St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Cold Lake, accepts a Western Canadian Communities Foundation donation of $500 from Hella-Ann Bortolotto, of Western Financial Group. |

Connie Pistawka, a member of St. Paul's, Edmonton, would like to find a home for her father's Antique Pump Organ circa 1870. Her father has been moved to a care facility. Dimensions: width 43 inches, length= 23 inches, height=84 inches. "The organ was appraised by an antique dealer at $400.
