All Saints’ Drayton Valley attends ACW Regional by Zoom
Ladies of the ACW Yellowhead/Edmonton West Region held their annual meeting on Saturday, September 19th. For the first time ever, it was held online using Zoom. Miriam Roberts of Drayton Valley shares her account of what that was like for the women at All Saints’ Anglican Church. When I first received the notice for churches to participate in the Yellowhead and Edmonton West Regional ACW Zoom meeting September 19th, I thought I would be the only one who could attend. Most of the other members do not have access to Zoom. I asked our rector, the Rev. Christopher Cook, if it was possible to set up the Zoom meeting in the sanctuary of our church at All Saints’ in Drayton Valley. He was more than willing to facilitate the meeting. A Harvest of Plentyat St. David's Edmonton Foodbank Garden It was mid-July when Bishop Jane came out to bless St. David's Edmonton Food Bank garden, and blessed it has been! This past Saturday, September 19, was harvest time, when we dug up an amazing crop of carrots and potatoes. Some of the tomatoes were ready for picking and others will stay on the vine a little longer as we are expecting some warm weather in the week ahead. This was truly a parish-wide endeavour from the beginning: from those who first dreamed of the project, those who shovelled soil into the raised beds, those who planted, those who watered and those who harvested. We are already making plans for next year's food bank garden! For more infomation visit:

September $5 FundraiserFour Sundays to Make a Difference Through the month of September, even though we can't do it over a cup of coffee as we would wish to, we are encouraging parishes to take up a collection for Buyé medical cards for our brothers and sisters in Burundi. In 2019, the Edmonton diocese raised $5,712 USD for these cards. As people throughout the world grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s even more important that we do it again. Medical coverage is out of reach for most seniors in Buyé Diocese, but our support will help the Buyé Mothers Union to buy and distribute medical cards providing 80% coverage for a full year for seniors, vulnerable women and children under 18. Face Masks Required for In-person Worship
As more parishes prepare to begin in-person services this fall, Bishop Jane continues to ask churches across the diocese to adopt the practice of wearing face masks or face coverings when attending in-person worship, though we may temporarily remove a face covering to receive communion. The Province of Alberta recommends the use of masks and the City of Edmonton has passed a by-law requiring it, as masks do reduce the spread of COVID-19. Even in areas where the risk seems low, it is good to take measures to protect each other as much as we possibly can during these days. |
LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES THIS FALL
|
FamilyFaith.Life Virtual Sunday School
Here is a chance to connect with other families across the diocese as we learn and grow together with our children in the way of Jesus! We'll be using a platform called FamilyFaith.life In order to take part, just visit the familyfaith.life/login from any web browser (on your phone, tablet or desktop) and click the "register" link. After filling in the form (be sure to save you password) your "home timeline" will load up. You'll see a "discover" icon in the top right of the screen, where you can find posts from others in the diocese and "follow" them to see how they are finding creative ways to foster faith in their families. When you start making your own posts, they can follow you, too. Each week a new video will be posted on familyfaith.life for families to watch together, along with ideas for faith conversations and crafts or activity suggestions that can all be done from home. Printable crafts and activities will be posted to the diocesan website. For more infomation visit: http://edmonton.anglican.ca/events/familyfaith-life-virtual-sunday-school--527/2020-09-13

Transforming Questions
"Transforming Questions" is a 10-session course hosted by Good Shepherd, Edmonton; St. Thomas, Sherwood Park; and St. Columba, Beaumont. It is designed to help participants engage basic questions of the Christian faith through teaching and conversation. Normally, this would take place around a meal. However, in this time of pandemic, we believe that we still need to create space for people to wrestle with these real questions. Our course will take place on Zoom on Wednesday evenings, from 7-9 pm, starting September 23 and ending November 25. You are invited to come to the first one on September 23 and see if this is for you. You will get the Zoom link when you register. Book PublicationHousing for Women Book Society In the late 1960s, women arriving in Edmonton without friends, money, or homes, had no good choices. The women (including some Anglican Church Women) and a few men who realized this, came together to find a way to help. This book, WINning: The Trials, Tribulations, and Triumphs of Opening a Women's Shelter, by Marsha Mildon, records the stories of how the founders got started, how they worked for years despite setbacks, how they fought to keep going, and how they won the ability to serve women in need.
