Ordination to the Priesthood of the Rev. Dr. Maryann Amor
With all that it has taken away, it is important to notice when the COVID-19 pandemic causes something to happen that is actually beautiful. Such was the case on September 29, 2020 when ten people gathered at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Edmonton, to witness and celebrate with the Rev. Dr. Maryann Amor, her ordination to the priesthood. Taking advantage of the autumn sun, the ordination took place in the church courtyard, amidst still bright flowers and golden leaves. Even the sometimes gusty wind and occasional noise from nearby streets did not detract from the sacredness of the gathering. Bishop Jane Alexander described the service as intimate, despite the outdoor setting, and “wonderfully appropriate in the Season of Creation.” For more infomation visit: http://edmonton.anglican.ca/news/ordination-to-the-priesthood-of-the-rev-dr-maryann-amor

Orange Shirt Day in Drayton Valley
On Sunday, September 27, members of All Saints' Drayton Valley participated in Orange Shirt Day to support residential schools survivors and proclaim that every child matters. Some parishioners came wearing an orange shirt and for those without one, orange tissue paper and napkins were provided that members fashioned into cravats and other creative items so that everybody could be included. After the morning worship service, an All Saints' ‘family photo’ was taken with members outside the front doors. Solidarity and SupportGood Shepherd Builds Sacred Space by Zoom Through the summer and early fall, Good Shepherd Anglican Church in Edmonton has been hosting a bi-monthly Solidarity + Sharing Zoom gathering, described as a “sacred opportunity for sharing and listening to build solidarity and support for folks experiencing racism in Edmonton.” The online gatherings began in June. Rector of Good Shepherd, the Ven. Jordan Ware, says they were to some degree a response to the Black Lives Matter movement and the groundswell of awareness surrounding that, but there was also a local impetus. A Good Shepherd parishioner had suffered a hate crime, which was investigated and prosecuted by the Edmonton Police Service, and which brought the reality of racism much closer to home. Transforming Questions

However, in this time of pandemic, we believe that we still need to create space for people to wrestle with these real questions. The course takes place on Zoom on Wednesday evenings, from 7-9 pm. It began September 23 and will end November 25. You will get the Zoom link when you register. For more infomation visit: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/transforming-questions-tickets-120318902075

"Stronger Together" moves onlineyouth conference creates more chances to participate This is annual gathering of youth leaders was supposed to be held in Tatamagouche, NS, but the pandemic had other plans! The great news about this is that we now don’t have to limit participation. Typically, the General Synod pays for one person per diocese to attend. Switching to online will take the financial constraints off this event! So now we can encourage all youth leaders in every diocese to attend. We are pulling together an event that will (hopefully) respond to the needs of youth leaders doing ministry in this digital/pandemic time. Please save the dates of November 24 and 25 and do not hesitate to email Rev. Danielle at Danielle@holytrinity.ab.ca if you have any questions. |

Book PublicationHousing for Women Book Society In the late 1960s, women arriving in Edmonton without friends, money, or homes, had no good choices. The women (including some Anglican Church Women) and a few men who realized this, came together to find a way to help. This book, WINning: The Trials, Tribulations, and Triumphs of Opening a Women's Shelter, by Marsha Mildon, records the stories of how the founders got started, how they worked for years despite setbacks, how they fought to keep going, and how they won the ability to serve women in need.
