Confirmations at St. George's, Devon
In the past four years, St. George’s, Devon has confirmed twenty young Anglicans, six of whom were confirmed this past Sunday. There is little than can equal the joy of raising up the next generation of God’s people. As we prepare for Harvest and Thanksgiving liturgies, seeing young lives impacted by the gospel reminds us of our own commitment to Christ. Our participation in their discipleship waters our baptismal faith. Our participation in the confirmation liturgy cements our togetherness in the Spirit. In joy and with thanksgiving we commit and recommit our lives to the Lord of the Harvest who will sustain us all, evermore! Submitted by Rev. Christian Gordon For more infomation visit: http://edmonton.anglican.ca/news/confirmations-at-st-georges-devon

Let's TalkGood Shepherd Creates Opportunity for Conversation about Racism Good Shepherd Anglican Church in Edmonton is spearheading two different approaches to tackle the problem of racism. The previous edition of the Synod Scene focused on the Solidarity Sharing Zoom meeting, which is providing a safe place for people who have experienced racism to share and be supported. While anyone is welcome to join that conversation (next meeting, November 17), Good Shepherd is also hosting a Zoom book club dedicated to discussing books that open up the topic of racism. So far, it’s proved especially helpful for people who perhaps haven’t had opportunity to discuss the topic in depth before. For more infomation visit:

After filling in the form (be sure to save you password) your "home timeline" will load up. You'll see a "discover" icon in the top right of the screen, where you can find posts from others in the diocese and "follow" them to see how they are finding creative ways to foster faith in their families. When you start making your own posts, they can follow you, too. |
Transforming Questions
"Transforming Questions" is a 10-session course hosted by Good Shepherd, Edmonton; St. Thomas, Sherwood Park; and St. Columba, Beaumont. It is designed to help participants engage basic questions of the Christian faith through teaching and conversation. Normally, this would take place around a meal. However, in this time of pandemic, we believe that we still need to create space for people to wrestle with these real questions. The course takes place on Zoom on Wednesday evenings, from 7-9 pm. It began September 23 and will end November 25. You will get the Zoom link when you register. For more infomation visit: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/transforming-questions-tickets-120318902075

"Stronger Together" moves onlineyouth conference creates more chances to participate This is annual gathering of youth leaders was supposed to be held in Tatamagouche, NS, but the pandemic had other plans! The great news about this is that we now don’t have to limit participation. Typically, the General Synod pays for one person per diocese to attend. Switching to online will take the financial constraints off this event! So now we can encourage all youth leaders in every diocese to attend. We are pulling together an event that will (hopefully) respond to the needs of youth leaders doing ministry in this digital/pandemic time. Please save the dates of November 24 and 25 and do not hesitate to email Rev. Danielle at Danielle@holytrinity.ab.ca if you have any questions. |
Book PublicationHousing for Women Book Society In the late 1960s, women arriving in Edmonton without friends, money, or homes, had no good choices. The women (including some Anglican Church Women) and a few men who realized this, came together to find a way to help. This book, WINning: The Trials, Tribulations, and Triumphs of Opening a Women's Shelter, by Marsha Mildon, records the stories of how the founders got started, how they worked for years despite setbacks, how they fought to keep going, and how they won the ability to serve women in need.
