Bishop Jane's Farewell Service
People from across the Edmonton and Buyé dioceses, the Ecclesiastical Province of Rupert’s Land, the Anglican churches of Canada, England and Southern Africa, the Evangelical Church in Canada, the City of Edmonton and beyond, took part in a livestreamed Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving for Bishop Jane Alexander, 10th Bishop of Edmonton, and her ministry. Although a third wave of the COVID pandemic prevented a large gathering and reception (as one might expect for a beloved Bishop), a small congregation including members of Bishop Jane’s family, diocesan staff and archdeacons, assembled at the Cathedral while people from around the world participated in the service, held April 17, 2021, from their homes and on their mobile phones, with an outpouring of prayers and farewell messages. As of April 22, more than 1,140 people had viewed the service on All Saints’ YouTube Channel: https://youtu.be/R5E380kT-l8 For more infomation visit: http://edmonton.anglican.ca/news/bishop-janes-farewell-service

What Does it Mean to be a Good Neighbour?Christ Church Easter discussions focus on Mister Rogers' and the Bible's teachings Throughout the season of Easter, The Anglican Parish of Christ Church is exploring themes of justice, sabbath, love, neighbourliness, diversity and faith using the example of the life and faith of Fred Rogers. "In a world that has become increasingly polarized and divided it seems fitting to reach out in love to our neighbour," says the Rev. Canon Sue Oliver. "Our worship and learning series was sparked by Mister Rogers' simple message of love and being a neighbour to everyone." Love My Neighbour Interfaith Projectopportunity to gift-forward COVID-19 vaccine Did you know that while places like Canada, the US, the UK, and elsewhere are well on their way in COVID-19 vaccination efforts, many other parts of the world who have not been able to receive a single dose yet (and will not in significant numbers for months or even years)? Canon Dr. Scott Sharman, ecumenical and interfaith coordinator for the Edmonton diocese, says this is, quite simply, a moral crisis. What does it mean to love our neighbours in the context of vaccine access? What would Jesus say to us about vaccination justice and equity? The Love My Neighbour project, in partnership with UNICEF, is a grassroots Canadian interfaith initiative which is seeking to respond to these questions by encouraging people of faith and compassion - Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Zoroastrians, and many more - to "gift forward" the cost of 1 vaccination in another part of the world for every 1 vaccination administered in Canada. For just $25, you can cover the costs for someone else to be vaccinated and multiply the gift you were blessed to freely receive. Visit www.lovemyneighbourproject.org for more information, and a link to the donation page. For more infomation visit: http://edmonton.anglican.ca/news/love-my-neighbour-interfaith-project

St. David's Eastertide Book GroupInspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again Wednesdays, at 7 pm, beginning April 21, St. David's Anglican Church in Edmonton will host a Zoom discussion of this book by the late Rachel Held Evans. Please email the Rev. Dr. Renée Desjardins (rector.stdavid@gmail.com) for more information and the Zoom link. “Drawing on the best in recent scholarship and using her well-honed literary expertise, Evans examines some of our favorite Bible stories and possible interpretations. Undaunted by the Bible's most difficult passages, Evans wrestles through the process of doubting, imagining, and debating Scripture's mysteries. The Bible, she discovers, is not a static work but is a living, breathing, captivating, and confounding book that is able to equip us to join God's loving and redemptive work in the world.”
