Electing the 11th Bishop of EdmontonThis week in the electoral process There is a lot going in this week in the process for electing the 11th Bishop of Edmonton, but most of is happening behind the scenes. Those who have allowed their names to stand for nomination have until May 29 to submit their CV, and to provide their answers to all the questions posed by the Diocesan Search Committee in the Diocesan Profile (also known as the Memorandum). As that information comes in, the search committee continues its work of assessing each candidate to be sure the requirements in the profile are met. Please visit the diocesan website for complete information on the process, and a timeline of events. |
Bishop Sixbert Elected Anglican Church of Burundi Primate
The Diocese of Edmonton congratulates Bishop Sixbert Macumi of our companion Diocese of Buyé on his election as the Fifth Archbishop and Primate of the Anglican Church of Burundi. “Happy Pentecost Day to you all,” wrote Bishop Sixbert in an email to the Very Rev. Alexandra Meek, diocesan administrator, on Sunday, May 23. “I am delighted to inform you that the College of Bishops elected me at its gathering last Thursday. According to the Constitution of the Anglican Church of Burundi, I will continue the leadership of the Diocese of Buyé alongside this new position.” We send our prayers to Bishop Sixbert, Clotilde Muhimpundu and their three daughters as they prepare for this new ministry. When he is installed on August 21, 2021, Bishop Sixbert will succeed Archbishop Martin Blaise Nyaboho who has led the Anglican Church of Burundi since 2016. This week, the Rural Road Trip Adventure takes us to the welcoming, riverside community of Fort Saskatchewan, northeast of Edmonton, and home to a famous flock of sheep. Take a selfie next to St. George's Anglican Church and share it with @countryroadsyeg on FB and Instagram. **Please Note: When you visit communities in the Diocese you are asked to follow the guidelines mandated in Alberta. Surprised by the Spirit ConversationPray, Discover, Discuss - Wednesday, June 2, 2021 Join St. Thomas', Sherwood Park, and St. Columba, Beaumont on Wednesday, June 2, from 7:00-8:30 pm, for a Surprised by the Spirit conversation on Zoom. This initiative from the Anglican Church of Canada is designed to gather small groups and congregations to reflect and pray on our experience of the pandemic. Through our conversations, we will identify "sparks": learnings, questions, and hopes, which will be gathered and formed into a church-wide Thanksgiving celebration this October. In the face of the disruptions of the past two years, prayerful conversations like this are an important way to emerge from Covid-19 as a resilient and hope-filled community of faith. Families Invited to Make Reconciliation HeartsMessy Church Reconciliation During the springtime we remember how excited we were as children for the school year to nearly be over. For the thousands of Indigenous children who attended Residential School the end of the school year meant they could finally go home to their families. We now know what happened to those children was not good for them or their families. We know that hundreds of children died while at school. For those children who did return home, we know that many were unable to reintegrate with their communities. We invite families in our diocese to make hearts to place in the ground around their parish's chokecherry tree. We have attached a "Have a Heart" activity sheet from the “Messy Church Reconciliation at Home” resource. If you would like, take a picture with your heart and/or chokecherry tree and email it to Fiona Brownlee. For questions or more info, please contact Fiona at f.brownlee@edmonton.anglican.ca |
