Prayers for Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family
The Diocese of Edmonton joins the nation and the Commonwealth in mourning the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Head of State of 17 countries and head of the Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth dedicated her life to service. She was a faithful Anglican, holding the titles Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church of England. Earlier this year, Queen Elizabeth celebrated the Jubilee anniversary of her reign as monarch. She was well respected for her grace and dignity. She was 96 years old. There will be a Diocesan Memorial Evensong at All Saints’ Cathedral in Edmonton to remember her life and to pray for her family and the Commonwealth. Our service will follow the National Memorial service at St. James' Cathedral in Toronto. Once the national service has been scheduled, we will share the date and time of the diocesan service. Parishes are encouraged to remember Queen Elizabeth and the British Royal Family in their prayers this coming Sunday. May she rest in peace and rise in glory. Gracious God, we give thanks (Photo: National Archives of Canada, 1959) |
