The Remembering the Children diocesan weaving project has come to its final location! The travelling loom is at All Saints' Cathedral until May 21. If you haven't already, be sure to take it in in these final days.

The project began at Christ Church on Ash Wednesday, facilitated by members of the diocesan Indigenous Ministries Team and lay evangelist Alison Hurlburt, a weaver.

Betty Kaahwa was the Loom Keeper at St. Faith's Anglican Church when the loom began its journey in March. Alison taught Betty how to weave and maintain the loom. For Betty, it has been a wonderful opportunity to learn about the project in remembrance of children who died at residential schools. She considers it a great honour to be the Loom Keeper at St. Faith.

The Rev. Jordan Haynie Ware, Loom Keeper Margaret Warwick and Kathleen Hancock were excited to recieve the travelling loom at Good Shepherd Anglican Church in Edmonton. On March 29 they posted to Facebook, "The loom has arrived! Rev. Jordan, Margaret, and Kathy have started to weave our portion of the work - sign up today or drop by during one of the posted shifts to add your contribution to this important artwork of remembrance."

Alison encourages people to stop in to weave, pray and remember. She says no prior weaving experience is necessary. “Beginners can weave a line in as little as 15 minutes," she says. “This isn’t about being a skilled craftsperson. It is an opportunity to make community art in recognition and remembrance of something that is and should be deeply felt.”

“We’re hoping this project unfolds organically,” says Alison. “It’s for anyone who has a heart for and an interest in sitting and praying with us and remembering all of these beautiful lives that were lost.”

To find out where and when you can catch up with the travelling loom, follow @rememberthechildren.dioedm on Instagram. Alison and Fiona will update the account with pictures as the project progresses.
