Grab your lawn chairs and blankets, the Christ Church Garden Concert Series is returning for a fifth year. Held at Christ Church, 12116 102 Ave NW, Edmonton, on Wednesday evenings in July and August, from 7 to 8 pm, these free performances attract audience members from the neighbourhood of Wîhkwêntôwin (Oliver) and from all over the city to enjoy music in the lovely gardens. The series offers a diverse musical lineup, from jazz, world music, folk, roots and Indigenous to classical. 

  • July 2, Chaka & Chiedza – two of the founding musicians in the Mbira Renaissance Band, this husband-and-wife team, originally from Zimbabwe, will make you get up and dance.
  • July 9, Maria Dunn – JUNO award-winning singer/songwriter who is often compared to Woody Guthrie for her keen social awareness and unvarnished melodic songs about ordinary people.
  • July 16, Jay Gilday – Indigenous folk-rock Canadiana singer/songwriter, Gilday is originally from Yellowknife NT and based in Edmonton.
  • July 23, Jim Findlay Quartet – Joining guitarist Jim Findlay, Cam Neufeld, fiddle; Michael Williams, bass; and Dean Pierno, percussion, will provide a taste of Spanish flamenco music.
  • July 30, Ben Sures – Folk, roots singer/songwriter, storyteller and sought-after musician, Ben played on the series last year. Joining Ben will be Stephanie Suchy, Kate Blechinger and Byron Myhre.
  • August 6 - Sam and Jessica Heine (solo and duo) - Folk, roots, pop – Jessica released her most recent album, Build Again, in February 2024. She’ll be joined by her musical brother Sam!
  • August  13 – Don Ross and Mo Lefever – Clarinettist Don Ross has a great series going in the Edmonton west-end cafes this spring. He'll perform “hot club” music with guitarist Mo Lefever.
  • August 20 – The YEG Byrds – local eight-piece ensemble (vocals, horns and rhythm section), performing swing, jazz and pop music.
  • August 27 – Elly McHan and Rob Curtis – Violin & Piano - To celebrate the 100th birthday of Elly’s violin, this husband/wife team will play classical masterworks and familiar classical favourites!

The series goes on rain or shine. If inclement weather or smoke, the venue will be moved indoors. Freewill donations support grounds' maintenance and community work.
