Ladies of the ACW Yellowhead/Edmonton West Region held their annual meeting on Saturday, September 19th. For the first time ever, it was held online using Zoom. Miriam Roberts of Drayton Valley shares her account of what that was like for the women at All Saints’ Anglican Church.
When I first received the notice for churches to participate in the Yellowhead and Edmonton West Regional ACW Zoom meeting September 19th, I thought I would be the only one who could attend. Most of the other members do not have access to Zoom. I asked our rector, the Rev. Christopher Cook, if it was possible to set up the Zoom meeting in the sanctuary of our church at All Saints’ in Drayton Valley. He was more than willing to facilitate the meeting. I contacted our members and they agreed to attend and be a part of the virtual world.
On Friday September 18th, I met with Rev. Christopher to finalize the details of the meeting. We all met on September 19th, donned our masks, cleansed our hands, and sat physically distanced in our spacious sanctuary.
We participated in a Morning Prayer service led by The Rev. Lorne Manweiler with members of ACW participating in the service from their own homes. Suzanne Rumsey, Public Engagement Program Coordinator, gave an interesting presentation to the group from Toronto on her work with PWRDF. A donation will be sent to PWRDF from the region.
The Zoom meeting was a new experience for most who attended. They commented that there were issues with hearing the speakers clearly. It was a change not having to drive to Edmonton for the meeting. Rev. Christopher was pleased the meeting was successful and he would be happy to do that again.
