Bishop Stephen London is pleased to announce the appointment of the Rev. Dr. Blessing Shambare as Rector of the Parish of St. John the Evangelist, Edmonton, effective August 15, 2025.

"I am incredibly honoured by this new appointment and the pastoral responsibilities that come with it," says Shambare, who, in his current ministry, serves the Ecumenical Parish of St. Peter's, Slave Lake in the Diocese of Athabasca.

Shambare says relocating from Zimbabwe, in 2016, was a "big shift in terms of context and content. But with support and encouragement from the members of St. Peter's ecumenical parish and the Athabasca diocese, I was able to adjust and adapt."

Married to Florence, currently a Provisional Registered Psychologist, Shambare says their three children: Mukundi (he/him), Gr.10; Mitsi (she/her), Gr. 8; Mako (he/him), Gr. 5, know Slave Lake, where they have significant roots of friendship and an established sense of belonging, as home. "While they are excited to expand their growth and embrace opportunities in Edmonton, they express that they will miss their friends in Slave Lake.

"I am joining the St. John's parish family with humility, looking forward to embarking on this journey of ministry and discipleship together, fueled by love and guided by the Holy Spirit. The opportunity to learn, relearn, and unlearn alongside the St. John community and the larger Edmonton diocese fills me with trusting anticipation of the numerous missions God has placed on his church.

"Transitioning from life in Slave Lake to the city of Edmonton presents challenges and joys, but I wholeheartedly trust God's calling. It’s a thrilling adventure to be sent forth and led in mission, and I can’t wait to see what blessings lie ahead for us."
