Members of the Cursillo community gathered for our Lenten Ultreya at St. Timothy's, Edmonton on Saturday, March 22. Our focus was on reflection and renewal during Lent and we were blessed to be guided by the Rev. Dr. Eric Kregel and the Ven. Jonathan Crane.

Rev. Eric shared Lenten and Easter poetry. While he read the pieces, he encouraged us to doodle or pause on what was stirred up in our hearts and minds, rather than seeking to interpret the meaning. We heard poems by: Jorge Luis Borges, Sydney Lanier, Wendell Berry, T.S. Eliot, George Herbert, Malcolm Guite, and Rev. Eric’s original poetry. The variety of poems and the passionate readings captured our hearts.

Rev. Jonathan then guided us through the practice of Lectio Divina: Praying the Bible. Using the reading, “The Testing of Jesus,” from Matthew 4:1-11, we followed the four-step process to prayerfully distill a personal reflection on the passage. When we shared our insights and reflections, it was interesting to see how the passage spoke differently to each of us. The passage became alive in an intimate way, and the various reflections expanded our perspectives.

No Cursillo event is complete without music, prayer and food. The fellowship we shared over food and song was fabulous. Our prayer circle is always a highlight of our commitment to hold each other up in prayer. Submitted by Janie Seguin
