$5 - 5 Ways - 5 SundaysSupport a Medical Initiative in Buyé It's back! Last year's September Coffee Fundraiser was so successful, we've decided to do it again. POSTER The Mothers' Union in our sister diocese of Buyé launched an amazingly practical initiative in 2018, helping senior citizens and less advantaged families to get a medical card, which gives them 80% medical coverage for a full year. The card costs about $5, but that is out of reach for many of the people who need it most.

Healing of Memories WorkshopEveryone has a story; every story needs a listener - Fr. Michael Lapsley, SSM This workshop will be led by Father Michael Lapsley a South African Anglican priest and social justice advocate. After he lost both hands and an eye in a letter bomb attack in Zimbabwe in 1990, he developed the Healing of Memories Workshop to run in parallel to South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission (1996-1997), creating a platform for those who wished to share their experiences and be heard compassionately. Over the following two years, workshops were offered through the length and breadth of the country, and in 1998 the Institute for Healing of Memories was born. Today, the Institute offers workshops and training to diverse groups of people all over the world, offering a venue to explore how scars of the past continue to shape our lives, attitudes and choices. This workshop would be of interest to those working in social justice, counselling, and advocacy fields; those interested in bringing healing to their own lives in a supportive environment; and those planning to pursue further facilitator training with the Institute. Conference registration fee of $275 includes meals, accommodations & conference materials. Register on Eventbrite For more info, email: HealingofMemoriesEdmonton@gmail.com / POSTER For more infomation visit: http://edmonton.anglican.ca/events/healing-of-memories-workshop/2019-09-29

Season of Creation in YOUR parish
How is you parish marking the Season of Creation, September 1 - October 4? Send your ideas, events and pictures to churched@edmonton.anglican.ca and we will share them through the Synod Scene.
|
Many Ways to Celebrate Season of CreationSeptember 1 to October 4 Season of Creation 2019 Celebration Guide The 42nd General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada voted to adopt The Season of Creation as an annual time of prayer, education and action. Beginning September 1, the Day of Prayer for Creation, and running through October 4, the Feast of St. Francis (patron saint of ecology), Christians across the ecumenical spectrum are encouraged to join together in prayer for creation and environmental stewardship. This season is a special time for the Creator and each other. Some of us pray, some of us do hands-on projects, some of us advocate. We all protect creation. The momentum continues long after the season ends. By seeding ongoing prayer, changes in lifestyle and advocacy, the season grows hope in our communities each year. General Synod, as an example, also passed resolutions encouraging parishes and dioceses to curtail their purchase of single-use plastic products by 2023, and to support the new Global Goals for Sustainable Development which aim to end poverty, protect the planet and pursue the common good. Ways to Observe Season of Creation - Hold a sustainability event - Plant a tree - Hold an ourdoor service - Reduce your carbon footprint - For inspiration, read the inaugural issue of Epiphanies, a digital magazine produced by the staff of the Anglican Journal For more infomation visit: https://edmonton.anglican.ca/what-we-do/environmental-stewardship/pages/season-of-creation |

Historic Apology
It was an historic moment in the journey of reconciliation between the Anglican Church of Canada and Indigenous people both within and outside the church: on July 12, outgoing Archbishop and Primate Fred Hiltz offered a heartfelt Apology for Spiritual Harm done to Indigenous people during the colonization of what we now know as Canada. Bishop Jane asks that this apology be read out in each parish in Edmonton diocese. See the apology in the link below and in the attached pdf.
A number of Edmonton diocese parishes have or plan to personally share the text of this apology with First Nations representatives in their area and with whom they have contact. If you would like information on how to do this, please contact the Bishop's assistant. For more infomation visit:

St. John's Reaches Out to Onoway CommunitySchool lunch program provides healthy, economical and environmentally-friendly meals We are called to “proclaim by word and example the good news of God in Christ; to seek and serve Christ in all persons; to respect the dignity of every human being.” This call to mission was expressed and lived out by a group of 11 people as they prepared 126 meals for the local elementary school on a recent Saturday morning in Onoway. Seven youth and four adults gathered to cut, chop, sauté, mix ingredients and cook hamburger soup and chicken and rice casserole for anyone in need of a school lunch. To fill a need caused by a downturn in the economy, or sometimes due to absentmindedness, St. John’s has been providing lunch items, in various forms, for more than 10 years. These items have ranged from instant porridge, granola bars, pudding cups, fruit cups, to individual macaroni and cheese or individual ravioli. All has been lovingly donated monthly by various parishioners. For more infomation visit: http://edmonton.anglican.ca/news/st-johns-reaches-out-to-onoway-community

St. Peter's and Friends Raise Their Hats to Clergy CoupleColeen and Mike Lynch Celebrate 35th Wedding Anniversary with Cowboy Church A chorus of ‘yee-haws!’ rang out through the sanctuary of St. Peter’s Anglican Church on Sunday, August 25, as rector Coleen Lynch and assistant priest the Rev. Michael Lynch said ‘I do’ before a congregation of 119 cowboys and cowgirls. In celebration of their 35th wedding anniversary the couple renewed their vows and received a blessing from Bishop Jane who appeared quite comfortable in a hat, jeans and boots. Many of the couple’s neighbours from St. Andrew’s Centre crossed the avenue from St. Peter’s to attend the service. “What a great morning! You must all love Coleen and Mike very much,” said Bishop Jane. Preaching on the Gospel of Luke 13:10-17 (Jesus Heals a Crippled Woman), she said: “Jesus teaches us that love is unconditional. This morning those of us who normally wear western-type clothing and those of us who do not, showed up to celebrate with these two people who have devoted their lives to serving God, because it is a loving thing to do.
