Ordination to the Priesthood
The Rev. Rebecca Harris will, God willing, be ordained to the priesthood on Wednesday, March 25th, the Annunciation of the Lord to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Harris is currently interim deacon-in-charge at Holy Trinity Riverbend, Edmonton. Due to the extraordinary circumstances imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Bishop Jane Alexander has arranged for attendance at the ordination service to be limited to only a very few, following the AHS guidelines currently in place. However, the Bishop's office and the cathedral hope to make a video recording available and will hold a public celebration of this event as soon that is possible. Please be in prayer for Rebecca on Wednesday. |
Serving You SafelyWe will also check the mail box for 'snail mail' regularly. |
Worship Services Postponed
Bishop Jane continues to monitor and evaluate the situation regarding worship services and will communicate next steps for April as they become clear. "We are living in an extraordinary time and we need to put the needs of the most vulnerable members of our churches before all else," she said. "Please take good care of yourselves and your folk." Protecting Each OtherWorship Community Guidelines Bishop Jane has advised that all non-essential gatherings, such as coffee-hours, potlucks, concerts and prayer groups be postponed until further notice. Video-conferencing, such as Skype and Zoom, should be used in place of face-to-face meetings and Bible studies. Consider making Bible study reflections available on Facebook or other digital platforms. Divide the parish lists into phone groups so everyone gets a weekly call to see how they are doing. Stolen Lands, Strong Heartsan excellent use of time while stuck at home The Anglican Church of Canada, in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions 94 Calls to Action, has created Stolen Lands, Strong Hearts, an hour long video documentary explaining proclamations made by kings and religious leaders more than 500 years ago, which created the environment for European explorers to consider the land they found as “empty” land and its millions of Indigenous inhabitants as “non-human.” A study guide accompanies the video for those who wish to pursue their study and increase their understanding of the ways this "Doctrine of Discovery" continues to affect us today.
