May You Have a Blessed Holy Week and Happy Easter
Synod Office will be closed for Good Friday. We will reopen on Tuesday, April 19 at 9 am. |
Bishop Gives Thanks to Clergy for Helping People "See Jesus"Cathedral Hosts Holy Week Eucharist for Clergy While Holy Week and Easter services bring people “of all stripes of life to church for various reasons, they are all seeking ‘to see Jesus,’” said Bishop Stephen London during a Renewal of Ordination Vows and Blessing of the Oils Eucharist for Clergy on Tuesday, April 12 at All Saints’ Cathedral in Edmonton. “We won’t hear those exact words, perhaps,” he said. But in the passage of John’s Gospel (12:20-36), the words, ‘Sir, we wish to see Jesus,’ are symbolic of a “spiritual hunger.” During Holy Week, when it is common for parishes to offer multiple services, Bishop Steve invited clergy to take pause to remember their “beautiful and profound opportunity,” to, like the disciples Philip and Andrew, bring people to Jesus. “Don’t underestimate the power of these {Holy Week} liturgies when celebrated with love and reverence. God speaks through them,” he said. For more infomation visit: http://edmonton.anglican.ca/news/bishop-gives-thanks-to-clergy-for-helping-people-see-jesus

St. Mary's, Vegreville Hosts Lenten Quiet Day
St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church in Vegreville held its annual Lenten Quiet Day on Saturday, April It was the parish’s first Lenten Quiet Day since 2019. A Quiet Day was to have been led by Bishop Jane Alexander in 2020 but was cancelled due to the pandemic. A total of five ladies joined Rev. Laureta in prayer, discussion and fellowship. The focus of the day was on prayer: of being willing, present, and open to not just praying to God, but also being willing, present, and open to listening to God. Following a brief presentation and discussion about prayer, the day was largely devoted to individual quiet prayer time. The ladies also shared in the eucharist and enjoyed a light lunch together. Submitted by the Rev. Laureta Blondin, rector, St. Mary the Virgin, Vegreville |

Join the Give 30 Campaignto support local food banks This year sees a convergence of holy days and seasons among the Abrahamic faiths during the month of April: Passover for Jews, Lent and Easter for Christians, and Ramadan for Muslims. As faith communities, these overlapping holy days afford us an opportunity to foster mutual understanding and celebrate our shared humanity while helping those who may not have enough in our society. And so, from April 15 - 30, parishes and parishioners have the opportunity to make a contribution to their local foodbank at www.give30.org/donate. Let's be generous, kind, and compassionate to the friend and the stranger alike and respond to selfishness with generosity, division with social solidarity, and meanness with compassion and kindness. Parishes able to confirm participation in the food drive by April 15 will be added as a supporter on the Give 30 Campaign website. |
Arctic AppealApril 27 Deadline for Non-Monetary Gifts Every year, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul North of 60 Project ships sea containers full of goods and supplies to nine northern and Arctic communities. St. Albert AB is partnered with the hamlet of Ulukhaktok, located on Victoria Island in the Beaufort Sea. Ulukhaktok (pop 450) is only accessible by air and, for a few summer months, by sea. Once the St. Albert sea container is packed with food and necessities, in May and June, it is trucked with other containers, to Hay River. In July, the containers are loaded onto sea barges, which travel down the MacKenzie River to the Beaufort Sea, dropping off containers at communities along the way. Ulukhaktok’s sea barge arrives in the fall. This year's project includes a special request from the Anglican Church of the Resurrection in Ulukhaktok. For more infomation visit:

Clergy ResilienceManaging Stress and Restoring Self Caring for others, responding to others, and coping with conflict and change on a continual basis is always part of the ministry of clergy. It can take its toll - especially in the context of a pandemic that has resulted in isolation, grief and loss, financial stress, and for some, despair. We believe that resilience arises and develops when self-awareness, self-care, and community and spiritual renewal are actively engaged. This 3-day workshop, to be held May 1-4, will provide a resilience development program with opportunity to reflect, interact with others, and to be seen, heard, and understood. The retreat is led by three skilled professionals: Marv Westwood, David Kuhl and Lin Langley. For more infomation visit: https://www.sorrentocentre.ca/events/developing-resilience-and-restoring-self
