Our House Addiction Recovery Centre was started in May 1984 by parishioners of the Anglican Church of St. Stephen the Martyr. At that time, the vicinity of the church was a safe place for people with addictions. A voluntary Board of Directors was formed from members of the parish and other concerned citizens from the community. A house was rented to provide a drop-in service to people which was operated on a volunteer basis only. The concept was “addicts helping addicts.” The basement of this facility was later renovated to add bedrooms. This allowed for short stays by young addicts.
St. Stephen's continues to provide support to residents of Our House, now located at 22210 Stony Plain Road, Edmonton. St. Stephen’s ACW collects essential items (toiletries, socks, etc.) and food donations for “Christmas Stockings” for Our House residents.
