We are pleased to welcome Fr. Michael Lapsley SSM back to the Diocese of Edmonton from October 31 to November 6.

Fr. Michael is based in South Africa, where he is the Founder and President of the Institute for Healing of Memories (IHOM). He is a longtime friend of the Diocese, the honorary Canon for Reconciliation and Healing at All Saints’ Cathedral, and was the guest speaker at Synod in 2017. During past visits, he has led workshops and training events in Edmonton. Several clergy from Edmonton have also traveled to Cape Town for IHOM’s international training events.

During his visit in November, Fr. Michael will lead a workshop day for the community of Jasper as they continue to work through the aftermath of the 2024 wildfire. He will also participate in a student event at The King’s University, lead a clergy day, and participate in a public conversation on November 5. Watch for more information soon.

About the Institute:

The Institute of Healing of Memories has its roots in the turbulent era of apartheid, a time marked by profound suffering and injustice. Founded in 1998 by Father Michael Lapsley, our organization was born from a deep need to address the emotional and psychological wounds inflicted by this oppressive system.

His personal experience of trauma and his unwavering commitment to justice inspired him to create a space where others could begin their own journeys of healing. This vision led to the founding of the Institute of Healing of Memories.

From its inception, the Institute has been dedicated to healing the psychological and emotional scars left by apartheid and other forms of violence and oppression. Our mission is to provide a safe, supportive environment where individuals and communities can share their stories, confront their pain, and work toward reconciliation.
