In 2016, Catherine, Marilyn and Neil Scott gathered together a group of resourceful volunteers and, with the assistance of the Diocese of Edmonton, sponsored a family of four from Syria: Nadia, Kamal, their son Mahdi and daughter Helen. You can read their story in the September, 2017 issue of The Messenger (page 6).
Relatives of the Scott family are third-generation family farmers who recently started a tree-planting initiative in support of refugee families. For $3.99 per tree (plus GST) donors can have a tree planted for them along Terwillegar Drive in Edmonton. They also get to plant the matching virtual tree online and share it as a gift. This is an opportunity to restore urban forest habitat and $2 per tree will help Syrian newcomer families sponsored by the Anglican Diocese of Edmonton. Find out more about the project here, and the real forest you can help grow in Edmonton here.
