St Luke’s Anglican Church in Edmonton held a successful kids’ clothing sale recently, with all items going for the bargain price of $1. The entire church hall was filled with tables of gently used clothes for newborns up to children’s size 14. Bibs, socks, hats and scarves were all given away for free.
Our second kids' clothing sale had an even greater response from our neighbourhood. St. Luke's members and neighbours donated clothing, as well as families from some of the community groups (Korora Choirs, Yoga with Barb) that call St. Luke’s Hall home.
All infant clothes that were left at the end of the day were given to Basically Babies, an organisation that donates a one-year supply of baby clothing and accessories to families in extreme need. All winter wear was donated to food bank clients who pick up their food at St. Luke’s.
Kids’ clothing sale organisers Donna Harker and Cathy Allen sorted and set up the displays on Friday evening and helped customers throughout the day on Saturday.
This year's clothing sale was greatly enhanced by partnerships with the Holyrood Community League and the Leagues on the Line event to celebrate the Valley Line LRT.
The Holyrood event, including free Bannock Dogs from Tee Pee Treats, live music, Indigenous dancing and games, and face painting, was all happening right on the lawn at St. Luke's.
St. Luke’s looks forward to continuing to work together to make our neighbourhood even more vibrant and to include St. Luke's spiritual home and community as part of belonging for all our neighbours.
