The lay leaders of St. Thomas Anglican Church continue to ensure that their parish is an integral part of the Wainwright community by consistently and passionately providing creative worship opportunities, such as several services over Holy Week and Easter.
As one-third of the Dayspring shared ministry (which includes St. Mary’s, Edgerton, and St. Saviour’s, Vermilion), St. Thomas is still searching for an incumbent, yet the parish held its second annual Agape Meal and Handwashing Service on Maundy Thursday, led by Allan Samm.
Norah Jagoe, daughter of St. Thomas’ retired honorary assistant Padre Ellis Jagoe, led a memorable Good Friday service. The congregation took turns reading a narrative of the Passion of Christ (John's version).
“We all wrote down our sins, concerns and worries and then nailed them to the Cross...” says Samm. “We nailed the reasons Jesus died for us.”
The parish was pleased to welcome back its former incumbent, the Rev. Ann Marie Nicklin, to lead its Easter Sunday Sunrise Service, which incorporated the burning of the Good Friday burdens. No doubt, there was much catching up at breakfast after the service. Nicklin then celebrated the Easter Sunday Eucharist for the St. Thomas congregation.
