Bishop Stephen London was “grateful” to be able to join the great circle organised by St Luke's, Edmonton, and All Saints Cathedral, led by Knowledge Keeper Verna Fisher and with singing and drumming by Lloyd Cardinal on Sunday, September 29, for National Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.
“I always find these events to be just what the name suggests. There are always important truths that are named. The truth is always in the form of a story, a true story of pain and struggle. But most often also a story of partial healing and surviving, of reclaiming space and heritage. The stories are both hard to hear and important to hear. But these gatherings are also about reconciliation. Together we also danced a round dance and broke homemade (delicious) bannock together. At the beginning, we listened together with hurting hearts. At the end we were dancing and laughing, also together. Truth and Reconciliation. Hopefully another step forward. Many more to go, but all in relationship…”
