Kiziba Spring to be completed this week!
The Synod Office received this update from the Rev. Dominique Ciza September 8th: "Greetings from Buye Diocese. Please see the pictures of the spring that I have taken this morning. Actually they have completed the construction work, but they are only waiting the cement to be dry enough and then they will cut short the two pipes you see on the pictures. The cement will dry in one week. On the pictures you see where people will wash clothes from (top right). You know that before, they washed from the spring. They have also set up a management committee for the upkeep of the spring composed of 5 people, two women and three men. I hope that the spring will be officially handed over during the week of 17th." For more infomation visit: http://edmonton.anglican.org/news/kiziba-spring-to-be-completed-this-week--299

Faith Communities and Government Speak Loudly Together
Members of Edmonton’s faith community joined representatives of local social agencies and people who have experienced homelessness to voice their concerns about the need for affordable, supportive housing to members of municipal, provincial and federal government on September 6. Organized by the Capital Region Interfaith Housing Initiative (CRIHI), the rally was held at Evangel Pentecostal Assembly. The gathering discussed the need for meaningful housing solutions, including the need for Permanent Supportive housing to help those with multiple complex needs, mobile support workers and a portable housing benefit. To give weight and urgency to this message, 12 people with lived experience shared their stories in smaller table conversations. Help Buyé seniors for only $5
Here's an idea for a simple fundraiser that will make a world of difference to senior citizens in Buyé diocese. Edmonton diocese invites you and your parish to hold an after-service coffee hour one Sunday in September. You probably do that anyway, right? If parishioners can donate $5 on that day, the diocese will use the money to support an amazing medical initiative in Buyé. Our partners there in the Buyé Mothers' Union are working to provide seniors with a card that gives them 80% coverage of medical expenses for a year. It only costs $5 but is out of reach for most seniors, who have worked at hard physical labour most of their lives, and now don't even have a pension. The King's University (9125 50 Street, Edmonton) is hosting its annual Interdisciplinary Studies Conference on September 19 and 20. The website describes this year's theme: "...we live in a 'post-truth' age, one in which... 'objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.' Remarkably, the truth itself has lost its appeal for us, if not its credibility, and we have polarized into the safe bastions of the like-minded...." Those who are able can attend sessions both days. There will be an evening lecture by the keynote speaker, Dr. Jeffrey Dudiak titled “The Gospel Truth: Good News or Fake News?” on Wednesday, September 19 at 7 p.m. in L-116. For everything, there is a SeasonJourneying through Life's Transitions The changing seasons in nature are like a metaphor for our lives. Nothing stays the same. Change is necessary but not necessarily easy. Changes bring transitions where we encounter questions of meaning, identity and purpose, grief and loss. Questions of ‘what now’ emerge. Yet transition times can also open the door to new opportunities, personal and spiritual growth, and unforeseen possibilities. This three-week series will explore our journeys of change and transition, what they are teaching us, and how our spiritual practices can be an important part of the unfolding process. Thursdays from 1:00-3:00pm on October 4, 11, 18
