Peter Yeung Honoured for 50 Years as a Priest of Christ
The Rev. Peter Yeung was honoured by his parish, St. Philip's, in Westlock, and Bishop Stephen London, on June 16, 2024. "I had the joy of participating in honouring the ministry of the Rev. Peter Yeung. He is celebrating 50 years of faithful ministry as a priest of Christ," said Bishop Stephen. I met Peter back in 2004 when I first came to the diocese, and he made a joke and made me laugh. Pure Peter! Thank you for your friendship and service." June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day
The Synod Office will be closed on Friday, June 21 in observance of National Indigenous Peoples Day. There are many ways individuals and parishes can reflect on the importance of reconciliation such as attending a community gathering (City of Edmonton events), reviewing the TRC Calls to Action watching the Stolen Lands, Strong Hearts documentary, learning about the history of the land we are on at www.native-land.ca, and by checking out the Indigenous Ministries page of the diocesan website for more resources. |
Listening Sessions Winding DownStill opportunity to meet with consultant, in person or online Consultant Anna Bubel has now engaged with all but a handful of parishes, quite a feat considering the two-month time frame she was given and the vastness of our diocese. Over the summer, she will prepare a summary of her visits to be shared for discussion at the diocesan Synod in October. This discussion will help shape the next phase of our five-year strategic plan to help guide our diocesan family in this time of change and uncertainty. If your parish has not had a chance to meet with Anna and you would like to meet, either in person or online, please contact Jacqui Chesterton, jfchesterton@gmail.com, ASAP to schedule a time. The entire church hall was filled with tables of gently used clothes for newborns up to children’s size 14. Bibs, socks, hats and scarves were all given away for free. Our second kids' clothing sale had an even greater response from our neighbourhood. St. Luke's members and neighbours donated clothing, as well as families from some of the community groups (Korora Choirs, Yoga with Barb) that call St. Luke’s Hall home. For more infomation visit:

Meals on Wheels in Need of Volunteer Drivers
Edmonton Meals on Wheels has a shortage of volunteers to deliver meals. Although all areas of the city are impacted, they have recently been struggling to fill their routes in the Millwoods, southeast, southwest and central areas of the city. Volunteers with a current Police Information and Vulnerable Sector check can start immediately. Alternatively, they are happy for anyone willing to obtain this clearance to apply. Meals on Wheels pays mileage, and hosts volunteer appreciation events throughout the year. "Above all else, the smiles and appreciation we receive from our clients, who more often than not are in desperate need of these meals, is incredibly rewarding." If you are interested in volunteering, please contact, Tara Lyon, People and Culture Manager, Meals on Wheels, by email: volunteer@emow.ca, or apply online at www.emow.ca
