The May, 2019 issue of The Messenger is available to download or to view as a Flipbook The Messenger welcomes story ideas, opinion and photo submissions relating to news and events of the Athabasca and Edmonton dioceses. Content should be limited to 500 words. Pictures should be high resolution, a minimum of 1 MB (300 dpi), and include the photographer's name and a brief description of the subject. Base Camp 2019: Registration is open!
Plans are underway for Base Camp this summer. Dr. Mark Armstrong, camp director, and the Rev. Heather Liddell, camp chaplain, will lead a week of faith, friendship and fun, July 21-26, at Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park at Lac la Biche. Kids in the Junior High age range won't want to miss this incredible opportunity for outdoor adventure and Christian community. Visit the diocesan website to register. Team Anglican April Update
As part of the Partners for Life program, members of the diocese give blood through the Canadian Blood Services (CBS) program. In 2019, we aim to donate 100 units by December 31. Coming up to the end of April, 10 people so far have made 15 visits to CBS, donating 11 units of whole blood and 7 units of plasma on behalf of Team Anglican! That’s a quarter of the members who’ve donated in the past and 18% of our goal for the year. If you have donated the gift of life, please continue your good work. If you haven’t, please consider taking on this challenge. And when you do, let them know you’re with Team Anglican! Habitat for Humanity Interfaith Works ProjectCalling on 600 Faith Community Volunteers! It's that time of year again! Time to strap on your hard-hat and pitch in to build homes for hard-working Albertans who can benefit from "a hand-up, not a hand-out" through Habitat for Humanity. The HfH Interfaith Works Project calls on all faith-based groups to join in until June 5, 2019. A Weekend to Renew and Revive Your FaithCursillo 2019 Registrations are now open for the 2019 Cursillo Weekend, an opportunity for you to explore and expand your Christian life in a co-ed retreat setting through guided discussion, prayer, music and fellowship. Lay directors Sue Wilson and Norman Sieweke have already begun planning for the weekend to be held at Star of the North Retreat Centre in St. Albert, October 18-20, 2019. The Spiritual ExercisesA Morning of Enquiry and Invitation - Tuesday, May 28 Are you intrigued by the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola? At St. Augustine’s of Canterbury parish in the east end of Edmonton, the Rev. Jonathan Crane, Ms. Pat Jameson and the Rev. Welcoming NewcomersWhat We Need to Know The 2019 Social Justice Institute invites members of Edmonton area faith communities to come together for a one-day ecumenical workshop to share and learn how best to accompany and support refugees and migrants in our local neighbourhoods. The program will focus on stories from recent refugees who have made the Edmonton region their new home, and from those working within local community agencies and settlement agencies and faith communities who accompany them. There will be practical suggestions and resources about how members of faith congregations can become more involved in reaching out to their new neighbours.
