Soul, Snow and Silence: Grace at the Edge of Wilderness

Canon Dr. Richard LeSueur will lead this year's clergy retreat from January 28-30, 2020 t Star of the North Retreat Centre. His theme will liken our connection as Canadians to "fierce landscapes and silent reaches" with early Christians whose lives were "marked by a soulful quest for a rugged spirituality in places of wilderness". This retreat is mandatory for clergy as they otherwise often don't have time for much needed space and quiet reflection. The cost is $360 to be shared between the clergy person attending and his/her parish. The registration form is attached and has also been sent by email. PDF Form / Word Form

Lessons and Carols at SJE Church

An estimated 400 people worshiped together at the annual ‘Lessons and Carols Service’ at St. John the Evangelist, Edmonton on December 15. As in past years, Organist and Music Director, Dr. Jacobus (Kobie) Kloppers worked with both junior and senior choirs to prepare musical selections which, this year, included favourite old hymns, beautiful choral arrangements, and some well-known pieces from Handel’s Messiah. In the week before the service, guest vocalists and instrumentalists joined musicians from St. John’s and all was brought together under the leadership of guest-conductor Dr. Debra Cairns.  Photos by Doug Cowan

Opportunity for Spiritual Growth

Opportunity for Spiritual Growth

through spiritual direction

Spiritual growth often occurs when we are able to explore our experiences of God with another person, particularly when that person is trained in active and reflective listening. This is the primary activity of spiritual direction, sometimes also known as spiritual accompaniment. The Studion School for Spiritual Direction is currently seeking volunteers willing to receive spiritual direction from our second-year students as they complete their practicum requirement. If this opportunity interests you, contact us by email at thestudionschool@gmail.com to find out more.
