Philosopher Cafe: Stolen Lands, Strong HeartsFilm screening and discussion led by Dr. Stephen Martin You are invited to join the Anglican Parish of Christ Church, 12116-102 Ave, for Philosopher Café on Sunday, March 1, at 4 pm. We will view the Anglican Church of Canada’s film: The Doctrine of Discovery: Stolen Lands, Strong Hearts. It is a film about a devastating decision, made over 500 years ago, in which Pope Alexander VI ruled that the lands being discovered by European explorers at the time was “empty” land and its millions of Indigenous inhabitants were “non-human.” The purpose of this film is to respond to the TRC Calls to Action by helping to provide education and insight into the racist foundations of many of our property and other laws still in existence to this day. |

Meditative Music at Holy Trinity
In the middle of the Lenten season, Passiontide reflects on Christ’s journey to the cross, and the universal themes of sorrow and betrayal, as we hope for Easter. Featured works are Schütz’s rarely performed early Baroque masterpiece, his setting of the St. John Passion; and the lush, Romantic Quatre motets pour un temps de pénitence by Francis Poulenc. The audience is invited to bring donations for Edmonton’s Food Bank – in contrast to the somber Passion story, a reminder that humans are capable of love, compassion, and justice. Advance tickets $20 through TixOnTheSquare.ca (780-420-1757) or Eventbrite.ca. Tickets at the door $25. For more infomation visit:
