Guidelines for Children's ProgrammingMeeting Together Again As we head into fall, Bishop Jane has provided a set of guidelines to help parishes develop their plans for children's programming, including Sunday school, youth groups and Messy Church. In an email to clergy on August 28, she wrote: "We are working hard to keep up with the guidelines in the province as well as the bylaws from each municipality; we are constantly taking in questions and asking for clarifications from experts in order to best help guide you in keeping you and your people safe." The children's programming guidelines and other "Meeting Together Again" information can be viewed on the diocesan website. Face Masks Required for In-person Worship
Bishop Jane is asking churches across the diocese to adopt the practice of wearing face masks or face coverings when attending in-person worship, though we may temporarily remove a face covering to receive communion. The Province of Alberta recommends the use of masks and the City of Edmonton has passed a by-law requiring it, as masks do reduce the spread of COVID-19. Even in areas where the risk seems low, it is good to take measures to protect each other as much as we possibly can during these days. |
Companion Partnership Nurtures Physical and Spiritual Wellbeing in Buye Diocese
With contributions from members of the Edmonton diocese, Buyé diocese last year was able to provide healthcare and pandemic training, theological education, clean water and church building improvements. During the month of September, parishes will be collecting $5 donations for medical cards. Medical coverage is out of reach for most seniors in the Buyé Diocese, but with the Edmonton diocese’s support last year, the Buyé Mothers Union purchased and distributed medical cards to 823 people from Kirima, Giteranyi, Vumbi, Canika, Kibonde, Murehe, and Gakana parishes. Cardholders, such as women, seniors and children under 18, receive 80% healthcare coverage.

September $5 FundraiserFour Sundays to Make a Difference Through the month of September, even though we can't do it over a cup of coffee as we would wish to, we are encouraging parishes to take up a collection for Buyé medical cards for our brothers and sisters in Burundi. In 2019, the Edmonton diocese raised $5,712 USD for these cards. As all countries grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s even more important that we do it again. Medical coverage is out of reach for most seniors in Buyé Diocese, but our support will help the Buyé Mothers Union to buy and distribute medical cards for only $5 each, which are good for a full year with 80% coverage. These cards also help women in need and children under 18. Please click below for details. For more infomation visit:

A Fond Farewell to the Rev. Ann Marie
Sadly, August 30 was the last official Sunday with the Rev. Ann Marie Nicklin as our priest, pastor and rabbi (she, of course, will remain as our friend), for the parishes of St. Thomas', Wainwright and St. Mary's, Edgerton. Ann Marie and her husband Owen now venture off into retirement, COVID-19 style. In her reflection, Amie recalled many cherished memories that both she and Owen have of the great people at St. Thomas’ and St. Mary’s. In her homily, she said she is sure the Spirit has future plans for her in the wider community. For more infomation visit: http://edmonton.anglican.ca/news/a-fond-farewell-to-rev-ann-marie

Holy Trinity Riverbend Offers Backpacks and Blessings
Starting the school year can be daunting, especially for students who lack all the supplies. Though backpacks stocked with school supplies can be considered essential, they are a luxury for many students. As they have done for many years, members of Holy Trinity Riverbend parish in southwest Edmonton are helping kids start school on a sure foot by donating backpacks and supplies. The backpacks, blessed by the Rev. Rebecca Harris on Sunday, August 30, will be given to students enrolled in an inner-city school. St. Luke's Messy Churchin the theme of reconciliation Messy Church is back at St. Luke’s for a COVID-safe season of making friends and making a mess as we celebrate faith. This new season starts September 12 with a very special Messy Church that will help us take part in efforts to bring reconciliation between the Settler and Indigenous peoples of our country. The plan is to pray together with a smudge, decorate Orange T-Shirts because “Every Child Matters,” then decorate and plant a heart at St. Luke’s reconciliation choke cherry tree. After all that, everyone will be sent home with a snack and everything necessary to make a Dream Catcher. To register, please go to the St. Luke’s website.
