Farewell to a Friend from the Past
Bishop Jane Alexander and a small group of community members gathered on October 1st to deconsecrate the church building in the community of Frog Lake, and to remember the blessing it has been. One of those gathered was married in the church, another went to school there. Sophie rang the bell in the chapel one last time. The years and the elements have taken their toll on the wooden structure, which is now beyond repair. The parish of Frog Lake, however, is alive and well under the leadership of the diocesan Indigenous Ministries Initiative and Fred Matthews, who is Lay Reader-in-Charge. Full Day Live WebinarA Truth & Reconciliation Initiative Many newcomer and settler Canadians strive to be in solidarity with Indigenous peoples in seeking truth, justice and reconciliation. For Christians who hold the Bible as the repository of important meaning, it makes sense to ask: Does our biblical tradition contain anything that could animate solidarity with Indigenous peoples in our time? Bible in one hand and newspaper in another, we will wrestle with some possible texts and connect the insights to current opportunities and challenges in allyship with Indigenous peoples. "Stronger Together" moves onlineyouth conference creates more chances to participate This is annual gathering of youth leaders, normally held in person, will be held on-line this year. The great news is that we now don’t have to limit participation. Without the financial constraints of attending, we can now encourage all youth leaders in every diocese to attend. We are pulling together an event that will (hopefully) respond to the needs of youth leaders doing ministry in this digital/pandemic time. Please save the dates of November 24 and 25 and do not hesitate to email the Rev. Danielle Key if you have any questions. |
