What Does it Mean to be a Good Neighbour?Christ Church Easter discussions focus on Mister Rogers' and the Bible's teachings Throughout the season of Easter, the Anglican Parish of Christ Church is exploring themes of justice, sabbath, love, neighbourliness, diversity and faith using the example of the life and faith of Fred Rogers. "In a world that has become increasingly polarized and divided it seems fitting to reach out in love to our neighbour," says the Rev. Canon Sue Oliver. Love My Neighbour Interfaith Projectopportunity to gift-forward COVID-19 vaccine Did you know that while places like Canada, the US, the UK, and elsewhere are well on their way in COVID-19 vaccination efforts, many other parts of the world who have not been able to receive a single dose yet (and will not in significant numbers for months or even years)? Canon Dr. Scott Sharman, ecumenical and interfaith coordinator for the Edmonton diocese, says this is, quite simply, a moral crisis. What does it mean to love our neighbours in the context of vaccine access? What would Jesus say to us about vaccination justice and equity? The Love My Neighbour project, in partnership with UNICEF, is a grassroots Canadian interfaith initiative which is seeking to respond to these questions by encouraging people of faith and compassion - Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Zoroastrians, and many more - to "gift forward" the cost of 1 vaccination in another part of the world for every 1 vaccination administered in Canada. For just $25, you can cover the costs for someone else to be vaccinated and multiply the gift you were blessed to freely receive. Visit www.lovemyneighbourproject.org for more information, and a link to the donation page. For more infomation visit: http://edmonton.anglican.ca/news/love-my-neighbour-interfaith-project

Sharing Communion in a Pandemica theological discussion Restrictions imposed by public health measures during the COVID-19 pandemic have radically altered the way Anglicans share the Eucharist. This has led to an enormous amount of discussion and debate, which has now been distilled and made available for reading and study. The General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada has published a collection of essays titled Eucharistic Practice & Sacramental Theology in Pandemic Times. The book is made up of more than 40 essays and reflections, including essays on "A Question of Digital Church," by Stephen London, rector of St. Thomas' in Sherwood Park; and "Theological Foundations and Journeys: the Eucharist and Sacramentality," by Scott Sharman, canon theologian for the Edmonton diocese. Retired Priest Shares Prayer of Thanksgiving for 50 Years of Ministry
In the name of God, Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier. I give thanks to the Divine, that on this day, May 2, in 1971, the Feast of St. Athanasius, I was ordered Deacon in the Church of God by the Right Reverend Walter E. Bagnall, Bishop of Niagara, in the Church of St. John the Evangelist, in Hamilton, Ontario. They had these stand before the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them. Acts 7:6 Thanks to the many family and friends who supported and shared this Ministry with me, over these 50 years, in the Dioceses of Niagara, Edmonton, and Huron. A special thanks to my children, Geoffrey and Margaret (& Deep). Thanks also to the Townshend family, to Dolores Shackelton, and to my daughter Laura and her wife Lynsie. Brian Edward Shoesmith is a retired priest and an honourary assistant at Christ's Church Cathedral, Hamilton. He served for 9 years in the Diocese of Niagara (1971-1980), then 6 years in the Diocese of Edmonton, in the parish of St. Paul's, Leduc and St. George's, Devon (1980 to 1985), in St. Paul’s as a single point in 1985-6, then 20 years in the Diocese of Huron. |
