The 2017 Bishop's Fund Dinner

The 2017 Bishop's Fund Dinner

More than 100 Anglican laypersons, clergy and friends gathered November 15th at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmonton for the 66th Annual Bishop’s Fund Dinner. Piper Kevin Thompson led the procession of Bishop’s Fund Committee members into the dinner. Committee chair L. Neil Gower, Q.C. welcomed supporters to the dinner and offered words of remembrance and a moment of reflection for members who are deceased. The Bishop’s Fund was organized in 1951 by a group of generous Anglicans, at that time known as the Bishop’s Men, in support of Anglican clergy facing unexpected hardships. It is now comprised of a diverse group of people, who donate to the fund in support of Anglican clergy. Members of the Bishop’s Fund Committee organize and pay for the annual banquet and 100 per cent of the proceeds from annual memberships are donated to a discretionary fund for the Bishops of the Dioceses of the Arctic and Edmonton.

This year, 'No Room in the Inn' has chosen to support the Edmonton Region of the Canadian Mental Health Association. Brochures and offering envelopes are available for pickup at the Synod Office, 10035 103 Street NW, Edmonton.

St. Saviour's Mission Celebrates the Ministry of Coleen Lynch

Sunday, November 19 was a special day in the life of the Mission of St. Saviour, Wabamun and its rector. Twenty years ago, on November 18, 1997, the Rev. Coleen Lynch was ordained a deacon at All Saints’ Cathedral by Bishop Victoria Matthews. She became a priest the next year, serving in several Edmonton parishes and founding the Women’s Reintegration Chaplaincy - a ministry to help women on parole fit back into society.

Death Café: Saturday, December 16th, 12pm-2pm, Upper Hall at Holy Trinity Death is a taboo subject in our society. We live in a culture where many people only start to think about what happens when we die - to our bodies, our loved ones, our souls - when they are faced with the death of someone close to them. I am passionate about creating safe spaces to talk about Death because it is the one sure thing that every one of us will have to deal with at some point in our lives. The HTAC Death Cafe is about turning on the light - pulling death out from under the carpet - and asking the questions so many are afraid to admit they've got bouncing around in their brains. AND, I promise, there will be cake. While our Death Cafe is in a church, Holy Trinity is also a community space; it is open to the whole community. Questions? Please contact Rev. Heather Liddell.
