Please Remember in Your Prayers this Week

Prayers for Victims of Hate Crimes
We pray for all victims of hate crimes, especially at this time, the Afzaal family members killed and injured in London, ON. The Al Rashid Mosque will host a prayer service on Friday in memory of the Afzaal family. The mosque asks that we join them in a moment of reflection at 2 pm on Friday. Please read Archbishop Linda Nicholls Ministry Matters reflection on racism and hatred. "As we grieve with the Muslim family in London in their losses; and, as we grieve with Indigenous families reliving intergenerational trauma and losses — let us commit our Church as a whole and in our local communities to the work of dismantling colonialism, racism and hatred wherever it is revealed. "God grant us eyes to see the truth and courage to act." Virtual Rural Ministry Gathering Welcomes Archbishop Linda Nicholls
On a recent Saturday morning rural folk from several parishes in the Edmonton diocese and beyond, (in some cases physically separated by several hundred kilometres), came together virtually on Zoom to welcome the Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada from her home in Ontario. Archbishop Linda Nicholls shared her views on the opportunities and challenges of rural ministry in Canada during the June 5 gathering offered by the Rural Ministry Initiative. Born in Calgary and raised in Alberta, Archbishop Nicholls has lived and served in rural and urban communities across Canada. Her first parish was a two-point charge in an agricultural and recreational area about 50 kms north of Toronto on the edge of Lake Simcoe. As suffragan bishop in the Toronto diocese, she served an episcopal area of suburban, commuter communities along Lake Ontario and the 401 Hwy, and agricultural small towns. As Bishop of Huron in southwestern Ontario she served an area with large agricultural swaths and many small, struggling, rural congregations. Immanuel's Heart Garden
Every year for the past six years the community at Immanuel, Wetaskiwin has planted a Heart Garden. The garden was started by the parish in 2015 as a response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. It is the community’s way of honouring and remembering the children who went to Residential Schools and, especially, remembering the children who died and did not return home. Since the start of the COVID pandemic, the parish has sent activity packages to family households so they can safely make their hearts at home and bring them to plant in the garden. This year, the act of planting the garden with homemade hearts and lovely flowers has been especially sad and difficult with the news of the discovery of 215 children, some as young as three, in unmarked graves at the Kamloops Indian Residential School. People who have made hearts, on their own or with their children and grandchildren, have expressed devastation over their realisation this won't be the last discovery of a hidden graveyard and missing children.
