As well as visiting for Sunday services in various parishes, he is making time for smaller meetings with rectors, vestries and corporations mid-week. The Messenger November 2021

The Messenger welcomes story ideas, opinion (Letter to Editor) and photo submissions relating to news and events of the Athabasca and Edmonton dioceses. Submissions are accepted until the first of the month, one month prior to the publication date (for example, December 1 for the January issue). Fresh Produce and Sourdough Bread Among Offerings of Lodgepole MarketWednesdays, 12:30 to 2 pm, PrayerWorks Hall A weekly market offering fresh produce and baking at market prices, as well employment, mentoring and skills-development opportunities, is now operating out of PrayerWorks Hall in the Alberta Avenue community. The Lodgepole Market runs every Wednesday, from 12:30 to 2 pm, in the parish of St. Faith’s, 11725-93 Street in Edmonton. Centering Prayer Groups Invite Participation
You are invited to join one of several Centering Prayer Groups meeting in person or online. Centering Prayer is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer; rather it casts a new light and depth of meaning on them. It is at the same time a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. This method of prayer is a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with him. Circles of Creativity and ConnectionWednesdays, 1-2:30 pm Our ancestors understood the power of creating with one another. In the absence of barn-raisings and quilting bees, we can still set aside time to process the effects of Covid-19 and rebuild the fabric of our community together as we begin to come to terms with the disruption, trauma, and loss of the past 19 months. Join the Rev. Stephanie London, at St. Columba Anglican Church in Beaumont, every Wednesday afternoon, from November 3 to December 8. Each session will involve using art and creative craft practices to open a mindful listening space, followed by an invitation to explore the fruits of the pandemic in our lives. Confirmation with Kokum3rd Session Sunday, November 7, 1 pm Confirmation with Kokum will be led together by the Rev. Nick and Elisa Hillier. It is open to any baptised person seeking confirmation aged 10+. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about and explore the faith of our baptism through the Creeds and Scripture, as well as through Elisa’s teachings about the Four Directions and Seven Sacred teachings which have shaped her faith as an Indigenous follower of Jesus. Gatherings for teachings will be in person at St. Luke’s, Nov 7, 14, at 1 pm. Masking and distancing are required for youth; vaccinations are required for those ages 12 and over. Chorale Colibri Intergenerational Choiran adventure in missional singing - Sunday, November 7, 2021 Dr. Joy Berg invites participation in Chorale Colibri, an intergenerational choir (all ages are invited, including families), sponsored by the Synod of Alberta and the Territories of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, and hosted at Hosanna Lutheran Church. This is a choir focussed on learning about and walking beside our neighbours around us in Edmonton and further afield, particularly by singing the Christian sacred song, by hearing the stories, by supporting and understanding the emotional and practical needs. International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted ChurchSunday, November 7, 2021 Every November, hundreds of thousands of believers across the world join together in prayer for Christians who experience persecution because of their faith in Jesus Christ. This year, the need for prayer seems even more urgent as we witness the challenges faced by millions of Christians around the world. The stories we’re receiving daily from our brothers and sisters living where faith costs the most are clear: your prayers make a difference, helping them stay as a light in the darkness in the toughest places. Sunday, November 7, 2021 is the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church. Inspired by Hebrews 12:28, this year’s theme is Unshakeable Faith. "Truth, Reconciliation, and Residential Schools" Online Lecture SeriesFree, beginning November 14, 2 to 4 pm The Strathcona County Library is offering a three-part, online lecture series, led by Dr. Crystal Gail Fraser of the University of Alberta. Session 1, Nov 14: "Indian Residential School Histories in Canada" Session 2, Nov 21: "Lived Experiences and the Responses of Indigenous Students & Their Families to Indian Residential Schooling" Session 3, Nov 28: "Truth & Reconciliation in the Era of Unmarked Graves" This session will focus on the need for continued efforts for truth and reconciliation in Canada. We will discuss the TRC's 94 Calls to Action, 150 Acts of Reconciliation, and how you can make a tangible difference today. Dr. Fraser is Gwichyà Gwich'in and originally from Inuvik. RESTORE Virtual ConferenceNovember 19-20 Renovare Canada, a spiritual formation community, is hosting an online/virtual conference on November 19-20. The RESTORE conference will look through Scripture as we seek to understand that which shapes our call as Christians and the work of God in restoring humanity taken up by the church.
