Funeral Mass for Justice Brian Burrows
A Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life for the Honourable Justice Brian Burrows, former Chancellor of the Diocese of Edmonton, who died on November 19, 2022, will be held on Saturday, November 26, 1 pm, at All Saints' Cathedral, with the Very Reverend Alexandra Meek officiating. Clergy are invited to vest and process. The colour is white. The funeral will also be livestreamed on the Cathedral Youtube Channel. Bishop Steve Recognised for Commitment to Ecumenical Dialogue
Bishop Stephen London was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal at Government House in Edmonton on November 15. A member and past chair of the Strathcona County Ecumenical Mission Committee since 2012, Bishop Steve was recognised by Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani, Lt-Gov. of Alberta, for his commitment to ecumenical dialogue. Community Nativity FestivalNovember 25 and 26 in Vegreville On November 25 and 26, St. Mary's Anglican and the Vegreville United churches are teaming up to present a display of more than 200 creches (nativity sets) from around the world. "Mary's Song - What is Your Song?"Advent Quiet Day on Zoom The Sisterhood of St. John the Divine presents "Mary’s Song – What is Your song?" Reflections for Advent on November 26 or December 3, from 10 am to 3:30 pm, on Zoom. Our reflections during the Quiet day will be based on the "Magnificat", which is Mary’s Song. Our journey during the day will be a reflection on learning to sing our own "Magnificat", our own song. We will walk with Mary during the day, and try to glean from her some insights, encouragement, and a challenge. This Quiet Day will be led online by Sister Doreen, SSJD. Festival of Nine Lessons and Carolsin support of U of A Interfaith Chaplaincy - November 28, 2022 The U of A Interfaith Chaplaincy Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols for Advent and Christmas will be held on Monday, November 28, 7:30 pm at the Winspear Centre. The annual concert will feature the U of A Mixed Chorus, Adam Robertson, director; handbells, Bob de Frece, Director; Marnie Giesbrecht & Joachim Segger, Organists. Annual Christmas Fundraiser Underway
For more than 20 years the Edmonton and District Council of Churches (EDCC), through the No Room In the Inn campaign, has coordinated this ecumenical justice housing initiative based on the Biblical story of Mary and Joseph seeking a safe place to stay when there was no room in the inn. The No Room In the Inn campaign for 2022 is now underway. This year, No Room In the Inn is supporting the Canadian Mental Health Association – Edmonton Region, (CMHA-ER) which provides safe and secure housing for people living with mental illness. With the funding raised in this year’s campaign, CMHA-ER will upgrade or replace aging and vulnerable security access systems in five of their seven properties in the Edmonton area.
