Commissioning of Lay EvangelistsSunday, January 14 at 6:00PM Alison Hurlburt, Corinna Kubos and Jenny Stuart will be commisssioned as the Edmonton diocese's first lay evangelists. The Lay Evangelists' program had its beginnings in 2012 when the Rev. Tim Chesterton went on a fact-finding trip to three dioceses in the Church of England that have been training and licensing lay evangelists for many years. Since then a number of people have worked together to create our own home-grown Lay Evangelist formation process. Alison, Corinna and Jenny have participated in twelve training sessions through 2016 and 2017, covering such subjects as relational evangelism, helping new disciples grow, running invitation Sundays, practical neighbourhood outreach, dealing with common questions and objections to the Christian faith, evangelistic preaching and testimony, running inquirers' courses etc. These sessions have been led by various clergy and lay people in and beyond our diocese. Sandra Arbeau was also part of this training, and although she has recently been ordained as a deacon the work of evangelism continues to be very important to her. Watch Alison and Tim describe lay evangelism to the 65th Synod in September, 2017 For more infomation visit: http://edmonton.anglican.org/events/commissioning-of-lay-evangelists/2018-01-14

Building the health and strength of Buyé childrenChristmas appeal a success Bishop Jane’s Christmas appeal for donations to renovate the pediatric ward of the Buyé health centre was a resounding success. Thanks to your overwhelming generosity, Edmonton diocese raised more than $77,000 for the project ($65,000 from Reach pledges and $12,000 from individual donations). We are waiting approval from PWRDF to begin work on the project, which is anticipated to begin this spring. The Rev. Dominique Ciza, Health and Christian Education Coordinator for Buyé Diocese, says the ward currently in use was built in the 1940s and is very congested, with two and sometime three patients sharing a bed. As a result, children are being re-infected by other patients, picking up illnesses other than those for which they were admitted in the first place. Rev. Dominique says the extension will go a long way to solving these issues. For more infomation visit: http://edmonton.anglican.org/news/building-the-health-and-strength-of-buye-children
