Retirement Dinner, RAPS Luncheon and Celebration Evensong
Bishop Stephen London began December by attending, on December 1, a retirement banquet hosted by the Parish of St. Margaret’s, Edmonton for their long-time rector the Rev Tim Chesterton. ”...Several parishioners came and spoke about Tim's long journey in ministry through the Church Army, the Diocese of the Arctic, and parishes in Saskatchewan and Northern Alberta. And he has now been the priest at St. Margaret's for over 20 years...” Bishop Steve then lunched with the Retired Anglican Priests and Spouses (RAPS) at Holy Trinity, Edmonton. "…This is a group that is back up and running after covid… A great group with lots of laughter.” Bishop Steve returned to Holy Trinity, Edmonton, on Sunday, December 3, for Choral Evensong and a celebration of new ministry for the Rev. Rob Key, deacon of the parish. Read more and see more pictures on Bishop Steve's Facebook page. Holy Trinity Ministry Team Breaks New Ground with Lovefeast
A husband-and-wife leadership team at Holy Trinity Anglican Church is breaking new ground by demonstrating how drawing from Anglican, Moravian and Lutheran faith traditions can lead to rich, engaging worship experiences. During a celebration of new ministry on Sunday, December 3, the Rev. Rob Key was welcomed as deacon at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Edmonton by Bishop Stephen London, the Rev. Danielle Key, rector of Holy Trinity, the Rev. Erin Thomas, pastor of Trinity Lutheran, Edmonton, and other members of the clergy and lay communities. The Sunday before the Keys, married since February 22, 2022, led a lovefeast service at Holy Trinity. Originating from the Moravian faith tradition, a lovefeast is a service that begins with a prayer and is followed by music and the distribution of a simple meal. People are then encouraged to engage in spiritual conversations. “This was the first lovefeast we’ve heard of being done in an Anglican church. Certainly, the first one at Holy Trinity and likely the first one in Canada,” says Rob. A Calling for All, the second of the Edmonton diocese's Five Primary Principles, sees an empowered laity serving as equals alongside a collaborative and team-oriented clergy. The Diocese of Edmonton will be leading the Revive Discipleship Program both in-person and online, beginning on January 13, 2024. Please watch this space for registration details. Opportunity for Spiritual Growth
Spiritual growth often occurs when we are able to talk about our experiences of God with another person, especially if that person is trained in deep and reflective listening. This type of reflection is the main thing that happens in spiritual direction. The Studion School for Spiritual Direction is currently seeking volunteers to meet one-on-one with second-year students over the course of one year, to experience spiritual direction, at no cost, as part of a supervised practicum. We have students who are able to offer direction in Spanish or Chinese, as well as English, and there are opportunities specifically for youth (junior high and high school age). If this interests you, please email thestudionschool@gmail.com to find out more. |
