Bishop Jane is pleased to appoint the Rev. Michael Chase to the position of Interim-Priest-in-Charge at St. George by the U of A, Edmonton effective July 1, 2018. This half-time position will increase to full-time effective September 1 and will end July 1, 2019.  

On the evening of May 18, 2018 (one week after the actual date) members of Edmonton Diocese gathered at All Saints' Anglican Cathedral to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the consecration of Bishop Jane Alexander. It was a joyous, festive occasion marking the Bishop's many accomplishments and contributions to the diocese. An annual Christmas campaign at Christian churches in Edmonton has raised nearly $60,000 to help provide safe and affordable housing for those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. 

Each year, 'No Room in the Inn' selects a specific affordable housing project and organizational sponsor to support. For Christmas 2017, donations were designated for the Canadian Mental Health Association-Edmonton, to assist with renovations to its Northern Arms apartment building in the Queen Mary neighbourhood. The building provides homes for families, couples and individuals who live with mental illness and poverty.  

Whether she is visiting parishes, leading and educating the community, or providing pastoral support to the clergy, our Bishop is always on the move! Here are some of the events which Bishop Jane will be attending over the next few months:

On Saturday, May 26, Bishop Jane Alexander will deliver a full morning of teaching on ‘Jesus-Shaped People for a Jesus-Shaped Church’. All are welcome. The event is hosted by the Edmonton Cursillo community. Lunch will be provided by the Cursillo Secretariat. Please join us from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm for worship, prayer, inspiration, food and fellowship at St. Matthias Anglican Church, 6210 - 188 Street in Edmonton.  

This spring faith communities will be volunteering with Habitat for Humanity at the Carter Place and Fort Saskatchewan projects, changing people's lives by building 74 affordable homes. The project hopes to engage 500 volunteers! Please see attached POSTER for details and check out the Recruiters' Package to sign up. It is that easy. No experience necessary. Volunteers are also needed to provide lunch for the crews. You decide which volunteer opportunity best suits your congregation.

How do we move from social service to Jesus Shaped, gospel based social justice? How do we graft the idea of social justice onto our social service initiatives? The Diocese of Edmonton Social Justice Committee is planning a workshop to explore this issue. Bishop Jane Alexander will help lead a Women of the Bible pilgrimage in Jerusalem, from June 5-14, 2018. The 10-day course, offered by St. George's College, tells the ancient stories of women in the Bible and their struggle, joy and tragedy. 

"Our itinerary will begin in Jerusalem and then take us to the Galilee, where we shall stay two nights in Nazareth, and then wind our way back to Jerusalem via the story settings in the Jezereel  valley and  Samaria. We will encounter Ruth as we look out at the hills of Moab in the distance from Bethlehem, the bravery of Rahab will be our encounter in Jericho, and the raising of Peter’s Mother in Law is remembered when we pray together on the Sea of Galilee at Capernaum.  A visit to the ancient port city of Jaffa will be the seaside setting for the raising of Dorcas."

The Rev. Tim Chesterton and Lay Evangelist Alison Hurlburt will be presenting the Stephen Ministries course 'Caring Evangelism' this Fall. The course will begin with a Friday night and all day Saturday (October 26 and 27) followed by five Tuesday evenings November 6 to December 4, from 7:00 - 9:30 p.m. Location will be Christ Church, Edmonton. 

What Is Caring Evangelism? Caring Evangelism is a natural, comfortable way to share God’s Good News. Caring Evangelism conveys respect and understanding for people, focuses on their needs, and gently communicates God’s love.

Education for Ministry (EfM) is seeking students for the 2018-2019 course year. EfM is a four-year program of theological education for ministry, intended to help people become more grounded in their faith, and to discern their ministry in the church. Do you enjoy walking in nature? This retreat is an opportunity to take time to slow down and draw closer to God through creation. The Canterbury Foundation is planning a “Brunch and Learn” series, which is essentially four brunch events hosted on site at our facility throughout the year, each brunch themed with a different component of our upcoming Capital Campaign expansion project. We will be featuring different components of our project (i.e. dementia care and residential hospice), how they will benefit the community and our residents, all while enjoying a delicious brunch!

This year’s National Worship Conference is fast approaching!  

Our Theme: In recent years, we have witnessed the devastation experienced by communities and individuals impacted by struck by fires, flooding, water crises, domestic violence and terrorism. The theme for this year’s conference reflects the vital role worship plays in times of local, regional and national crises to provide comfort and support for people in communities where we serve. The conference will equip participants with resources and ideas centred around prayer, song and presence to provide solace and healing in the aftermath of disasters and crises. If you are clergy, a musician, liturgist or interested lay leader, you won’t want to miss this biennial event.
