Women of the Bible
Several people from parishes in the Edmonton Diocese arrived in Jerusalem this week to take part in a course led by Bishop Jane. Things are starting off well, apart from a little jet lag. Some of the clergy attending are pictured above. From left: Susan Lukens (Associate Dean of St. George College in Jerusalem) Donna Gauthier (Cold Lake), Laurie Brock (Kentucky), Bishop Jane, and Cheryl Boulet (Onoway). The 10-day course, offered by St. George's College, begins and ends in Jerusalem with many stops in between as participants focus on the ancient stories of women in the Bible and their struggle, tragedy and joy.

Talking about Neighbourly Reconciliation
On the lovely sunny Sunday, May 27, Fiona Brownlee, the diocesan Aboriginal and Rural Churches Liaison, went off to St. Saviour's, Vermilion to preach and have conversation about neighbourly reconciliation; the reconciliation work of rural churches and their neighbours, the First Nations communities around them. Last fall Fiona had facilitated a Blanket Exercise in the parish and this was a follow up to that. After worship there was a lively question and answer session in the church hall. Some wondered, 'how long should the church continue to say sorry?' Fiona's response was: as long as it is needed, and that we can't forget the role the church had in residential schools. We have a HeartAn act of Neighbourly Reconciliation We gathered, we listened, we shared, we planted, we remembered. For the fourth year in a row members of Immanuel, Wetaskiwin gathered to remember the children that went to Indian Residential Schools and to especially honour those who did not return to their families. Adults and children decorated small wooden tiles with images and words to represent their feelings about residential schools and the impact that they are still having today. These tiles are going to be gathered together to make a permanent memorial inside the church. For more infomation visit:

St. Augustine’s Parkland brings the fire of the Spirit to Messy Church
St. Augustine’s Parkland launched its Messy Church on June 2, 2018. The event drew families from all parts of the Parkland region and from Edmonton. There were 52 people in total and of that there were 23 children and teenagers. The theme focused on Pentecost, the birth of the Church and, of course, the birth of Messy Church at St. Augustine’s Parkland! Everyone learned about the Pentecost experience through the themes of wind, fire, tongues and celebrating as a church together. Our youth minister, Tara Munn, discussed with everyone the importance of God’s Holy Spirit in our lives and how each one of us is a gift from God and to the Church. We rounded out our celebration with a BBQ supper and fellowship. Many who attended have already expressed their appreciation and love for this new experience of Church and look forward to attending our monthly Messy Church! Submitted by the Rev. Billy Isenor. NWC: Responding to Disaster: Prayer, Song and PresenceRegistration for the Anglican/Lutheran National Worship Conference closes June 15 This year’s National Worship Conference in Victoria is fast approaching. Clergy and worship leaders from all denominations are welcome to join in this timely conference - an opportunity to explore the ways in which communities of faith can support others in times of tragedy and disaster. In recent years, we have witnessed the devastation experienced by communities and individuals impacted by struck by fires, flooding, tragic accidents, domestic violence and terrorism. The theme for this year’s conference reflects the vital role worship plays in times of local, regional and national crises to provide comfort and support for people in communities where we serve. If you are clergy, a musician, liturgist or interested lay leader, you won’t want to miss this biennial event. Rooms at the Laurel Point Inn are no longer being held for the conference, however people can still get the conference rate if they identify as a participant. For more information or to register go to: nationalworshipconference.org |
