From Ngozi to VermilionCompanion Bishops Treated to Rural Hospitality Bishop Jane and her assistant Jennifer Wirun took our companion Diocese of Buyé visitors Bishop Sixbert and Clotilde on a rural road trip last Friday to the Vermilion Agricultural Fair. They were welcomed by Town of Vermilion Mayor Caroline McAuley and St. Saviour’s Rector the Rev. Elizabeth Metcalfe. St. Saviour’s has been serving hungry fairgoers from its grandstand booth since 1915. On the fairgrounds Bishop Sixbert and Clotilde sampled a prairie favourite, Saskatoon pie (made during the parish pie-making bee), crushed canola seeds to make oil, watched a demonstration of the massive farm equipment, pet Clydesdale horses in the barn – and munched on mini doughnuts and cotton candy on the midway, before visiting St. Saviour’s Anglican Church. Help Buyé seniors for only $5
Here's a simple idea for a simple fundraiser that will make a world of difference to senior citizens in Buyé Diocese. Edmonton Diocese invites you and your parish to hold an after-service coffee hour one Sunday in September. You probably do that anyway, right? If parishioners can donate $5 on that day, the diocese will use the money to support an amazing medical initiative in Buyé. Our partners there in the Buyé Mothers' Union are working to provide seniors with a card that gives them 80% coverage of medical expenses for a year. It only costs $5 but is out of reach for most seniors, who have worked at hard physical labour most of their lives, and now don't even have a pension. The NeighbourlyDipping our toes in political waters The Neighbourly is a monthly publication of the Capital Region Interfaith Housing Initiative, of which the Anglican Diocese of Edmonton is a founding and active member. This month's edition includes an invitation to two events that connect faith groups to the politics of affordable housing. Perhaps you're one (like many of us) who tends to shy away from politics. However, simply attending one of these events requires no more commitment than the time it takes, and might be a good education!
