Anglican Diocese of Edmonton
Synod Scene August 6-12, 2018
Please remember in your prayers this week

Please remember in your prayers this week

  • Those who are sick or suffering: Amy, Deb, Andrew and Aiden and their families.
  • Those who have died and those who mourn.
  • Our brothers and sisters in Christ from Treaty Six and Treaty Eight First Nations.
  • Bishop Sixbert and the Diocese of Buyé (Updated List of Twinned Parishes).
  • Request a prayer Click here to email the Synod Office and let us know what you would like 'pray-ers' in the diocese to pray for. We will use first names only for personal prayer requests. They will be removed after two or three weeks; please let us know if you would like a name to remain on or be returned to the list.
Help Buyé seniors for only $5

Help Buyé seniors for only $5

Here's an idea for a simple fundraiser that will make a world of difference to senior citizens in Buyé diocese. Edmonton diocese invites you and your parish to hold an after-service coffee hour one Sunday in September. You probably do that anyway, right? If parishioners can donate $5 on that day, the diocese will use the money to support an amazing medical initiative in Buyé. Our partners there in the Buyé Mothers' Union are working to provide seniors with a card that gives them 80% coverage of medical expenses for a year. It only costs $5 but is out of reach for most seniors, who have worked at hard physical labour most of their lives, and now don't even have a pension.

Give the Gift of Life

Give the Gift of Life

As Partners for Life, members of the diocese give blood through the Canadian Blood Services (CBS) Program. Together, we donated 133 units of blood in 2017, up from 85 units in our first year, so we increased our 2018 goal to 125 by December 31. So far we have given 38 units of blood toward that pledge - so a good ways to go in the next five months!

St. Luke Goes North - and Back Again

St. Luke Goes North - and Back Again

The team from St. Luke's is home again after running a week-long vacation bible school in the Northwest Territories. The trip was a project of On Eagle's Wings and except for a flat tire on the way home, everything went extremely well. The team interacted with 24 children in total in a primarily indigenous community and met with band and church leaders in an effort to understand their context and to encourage local Christians. What an experience! Please pray for a lasting impact.

At St. Mary's, Ponoka

St. Mary's, Ponoka changed from a quiet church into Superhero Central in July. We had 15 kids come and learn about Superheroes and their powers, in everyday life and in the bible. From making costumes, to building a city and going through a laser maze, the kids were full of enthusiasm and energy. The best line of the week was when we were talking about Simon Peter being a fisherman and a 5-year-old pipes up, "I am a fisherman too!"

St. Patrick's to Dedicate Community Labyrinth

Sunday, August 19 at 10:00AM

The parish of St. Patrick’s, Whitecourt will celebrate the realization of a dream on August 19. That morning the parish will welcome Bishop Jane Alexander for a Service of Confirmation, and she will bless St. Patrick's community prayer labyrinth. Since the spring, members of the parish have been busily working to transform their empty downtown church yard into a beautiful oasis for the whole community. The labyrinth is a circular foot path representing the physical, emotional and spiritual journey we all make through life. Completed at the end of July, this sacred space is intended to bring peace to those who walk it. All are welcome to visit the Labyrinth and join in the celebration!
