Archbishop Fred Hiltz, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, and Diocese of Edmonton Bishop Jane Alexander invite churches to ring their bells for peace at the going down of the sun on Remembrance Day, the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
The ringing of bells emulates the moment in 1918 when church bells across Europe tolled as four years of war had come to an end.
In the November Anglican Journal, Hiltz calls on Canada’s Anglican churches to take part in the Bells of Peace commemorative event, an invitation from the Royal Canadian Legion and Veterans Affairs Canada.
