Days after participating in ecumenical talks in France, the Most Rev. Linda Nicholls, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, preached at Evensong, at All Saints’ Cathedral, Edmonton, on May 22.

The early evening service, featuring the beautiful voices of the Cathedral Choir and guests, led by Jeremy Spurgeon, All Saints’ Music Director, was offered by the Anglican Foundation of Canada (AFC) before its annual general meeting.

The Rt. Rev. Stephen London, who was invited to meetings earlier in the day to speak about recent AFC-supported projects in the Diocese of Edmonton, also took part in the service, as did the Most Rev. Anne Germond, Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of Ontario who will serve as acting Primate when Nicholls retires on September 15th ahead of her 70th birthday.

Since 2013, the AFC has awarded more than $259,000 in grants supporting ministry and infrastructure improvements in the Diocese of Edmonton. To date, in 2024, the Foundation has supported the Music Mends Minds community ministry program at St. George’s Anglican Church in Edmonton; as well as accessibility and safety upgrades to All Saints’ Cathedral.

Canon (lay) David Jones, K.C., former chancellor of General Synod and a member of Holy Trinity, Edmonton, attended Evensong. When Jones announced his retirement, in 2023, General Synod established the David Phillip Jones Preaching Fund for excellence and passion in preaching. The service was followed by a wine and cheese reception and the Foundation’s AGM.
