The live streaming community of St Matthew’s, St. Albert was blown away with the pleasant surprise of Holy Spirit-and-fire themed balloons on Sunday morning on their television and computer screens.

We have traditionally had a variety of balloon bouquets over the years to mark the festivities of Pentecost, but I don’t think anyone expected it to carry through into this year. Everything is so different in how we “do” church that balloons seemed like a tradition that we would miss this year as a result of COVID-19.

Instead, when people turned on the service, they saw fire-like balloons coming from the foot of the cross, reminding us that, just as Archdeacon Lee said, “the Spirit of God and the Church says to us, ‘don’t give up’ and because of the coming of the Spirit, we hold the assurance that God is always with us!”

It wasn’t lost on most viewers that where Archdeacon Lee was standing, the tongues of fire appeared to also be coming from him. :)

Happy Pentecost!
