Members of the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) have chosen a new name.

During a Special Members meeting, "Alongside Hope" was selected as a “compelling name” that both “honours the PWRDF’s history as the Anglican Church of Canada’s agency for international development and humanitarian response and will sustain the agency’s work into the future.”

It is hoped the new name simply conveys the concept of partnership by:

  • Being easy to understand and to pronounce;
  • requiring no lengthy or clumsy acronym;
  • de-emphasising the colonial, top-down approach of giving and emphasising a more collaborative approach;
  • carrying the agency into the future.

Further qualifying the new moniker is the tagline “Anglicans and partners working for change in Canada and around the world.”

“I was very pleased to have been present when this new name was voted on and approved,” says Jeff Hanger, PWRDF Rep for the Diocese of Edmonton.

“This has followed an extensive process to find a new name, a journey that (since 2022) has seen hundreds of names suggested and a whole bunch of roadblocks in terms of names already taken and other legal reasons,” he says.

“Alongside Hope says everything about the work of the organisation. Through our funding model, we seek partners to help deliver aid where it is most needed, support to projects integral to the development of vulnerable communities, protection for vulnerable individuals and hope for Indigenous peoples here in Canada.”

Hanger notes that:

  • The official date for the name change is March 2025, so all donations to the organization until March 2025 will be receipted to PWRDF;
  • the Christmas World of Gifts campaign will continue under the PWRDF name;
  • the agency is keeping its colourful globe logo;
  • new materials will be printed in the new year with the new name.

“So, here we are, delivering the same projects around the world and walking with partners Alongside Hope.”
