St. Patrick's Day at St. Patrick's
St. Patrick’s Day was a celebration of patronal proportions at St. Patrick’s Anglican Church in Edmonton. Preaching on the appointed St. Patrick’s Gospel passage (Matthew 5:43-48), Bishop Jane inspired all congregants to live out the challenging teaching of Jesus to love our enemies. In so doing, she also addressed the heinous act of terrorism in Christchurch, New Zealand unleashed upon two Muslim mosques. During the 10:00am worship service, Bishop Jane – along with the Rev. Robin Walker and Sarah Bohnet – presented Rosalyn Murray with her EFM graduation certificate. To further round out the celebration, the Bishop then received Paul Payyapilly into the Anglican Communion. Another highlight of the service was a joint choir (the Filipino Community and St. Patrick’s choristers) which led the congregation in all Celtic hymns, anthem, prelude, and postlude. During the offertory, the Filipino Community also processed in the bread and wine with dancing and their traditional gongs. But perhaps one of the most memorable moments was Bishop’s Jane’s children’s lesson complete with an unveiling of Lucky Charms cereal! Following the 10:00am service, everyone enjoyed a plentiful potluck lunch which was followed by more dancing, fun, and games. It was truly a patronal FEAST! For more infomation visit:

A Word to the ChurchConsidering the proposed amendment of Marriage Canon XXI The Council of General Synod (CoGS) has concluded its March 14-17 gathering. One of several outcomes of the CoGS meeting was a Word to the Church. CoGS has written this document in preparation for the vote on Marriage Canon XXI to be taken when General Synod meets in July. It includes a history of the discussions in the Anglican Church of Canada around same-sex relationships. It also includes a series of five affirmations. Regardless the outcome of July's vote, CoGS is asking General Synod and the whole church to take to heart these affirmations regarding Indigenous spiritual self-determination, a recognition of the diversity of understandings and teachings on these issues as well as the diversity of understandings of the existing canon, our ongoing commitment to presume good faith among all, and our commitment as a church to stand together.

Less Plastic for Lent
This Lent (March 6 to April 14) we are challenged by Green Anglicans to turn from the sin of damaging God’s planet and hurting our neighbours by our over use of single use (throwaway) plastic. By 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish. Plastic is already entering into our drinking water. Plastic clogs our rivers, leaches into our soil and is one of the greatest challenges the planet faces. For more infomation visit:
