Between Ascension and Pentecost, May 30-June 9, 2019, communities and churches around the world are gathering together to pray that their friends, families and neighbours come to know Jesus. Thy Kingdom Come #TKC19 is an international and ecumenical call to prayer which started in 2016 as an invitation to the Church of England from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York.

In a service beginning at 7:00 pm on Sunday, June 2, Bishop Jane Alexander will be pleased to license new lay readers who are prepared to serve in this capacity in their various parishes throughout the diocese, and to re-license those whose licenses have exceeded their three-year span. Please join us to celebrate these leaders in the church who volunteer their time and talent for the benefit of all and the glory of God. The most recent Lay Reader Licensing Service was in September 2017 (see photo).

On Saturday, June 8, the Edmonton Anglican Cursillo community will host a teaching day with Bishop Jane Alexander. Join us at St. George's, Devon (1 St. Clair Street) from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm for another of the Bishop's inspiring and illuminating presentations on our Christian walk in the world. This summer, the Rev. Maralyn Benay, deacon at St. Columba, Beaumont, invites all to join her for Lawnchair Church, an ecumenical communion service every Sunday, at 10:00 am, from May long weekend to September long weekend. Maralyn is located in Site 23 of the Whispering Spruce Campground, five KMs south of Pigeon Village on Highway 13. Turn south at Pigeon Village (corner of Blackbull Golf Course). Everyone is welcome! Bishop Jane will be away from the diocese from May 18 to June 2. While away, the Bishop has appointed the Ven. Alan Perry, Acting Dean, as her Commissary.

On Jerusalem Sunday (June 2) we pray for the Anglican (Episcopal) Diocese of Jerusalem and the Middle East. Last summer, several members of our diocese participated in a pilgrimage to the Holy Land for the Women of the Bible course led by Bishop Jane through St. George's College in Jerusalem.

Are you interested in offering your skills for the ministry of the General Synod through its Coordinating and Standing Committees? One of the triennial acts of the meeting of General Synod, July 10-16 in Vancouver, is to elect members to the various standing and coordinating committees which oversee the work and planning of the many and varied ministries of the General Synod. Registration for Education for Ministry is now open. The program gives lay people a basic grounding in the main theological subjects. It runs September through May, with registration due by July 15. Registrations are now open for the 2019 Cursillo Weekend, an opportunity to explore and expand your Christian life in a retreat setting through guided discussion, prayer, music and fellowship. Lay directors Sue Wilson and Norman Sieweke have already begun planning for the weekend to be held at Star of the North Retreat Centre in St. Albert, October 18-20, 2019. Please pray about who you can sponsor to this opportunity for Christian growth and fellowship. The weekend is open to singles, couples, and people at all stages of their Christian journey. Registration forms are completed by the applicant, a sponsor and your parish clergy. Join Archdeacon Travis Enright and other local faith and Indigenous community members in the Walk for Common Ground 2019, from May 31 to June 14, 2019. Over 15 days, team of 30 core walkers will journey 350 km from Edmonton (leaving Ivor Dent Park at 2 pm on Friday) to Calgary. Along the way they will stop in 15 different communities to engage in conversations around our responsibilities as Treaty partners. Every evening walkers will facilitate a short Treaty teaching session followed by a Talking Circle. The intention is to engage Indigenous and non-Indigenous citizens in reflection and dialogue about the myths, facts and obligations of Treaty relationships and create a safe space to explore better future possibilities.

Director Tasha Hubbard will be on hand for both showings of her film, nîpawistamâsowin: We Will Stand Up, at 6:30 pm June 1 and 1:00 pm June 2, at Metro Cinema, 8712–109 Street NW, Edmonton. The film follows the story of a 22-year-old Cree man named Colten Boushie who, on August 9, 2016, died from a gunshot to the back of his head after he and his friends entered Gerald Stanley’s rural property near Biggar, Saskatchewan. The jury’s subsequent acquittal of Stanley captured international attention, raising questions about racism embedded within Canada’s legal system and propelling Colten’s family to national and international stages in their pursuit of justice.

Our Common Ground is hosting Atchakosuk: Cree Star Stories - a screening of "Legends of the Northern Sky" at the TELUS World of Science followed by a presentation by story teller Hunter Cardinal about our connection to the cosmos and all that is. Includes a bannock and tea reception.

For the fifth year in a row Immanuel Anglican Church, 5103-46 Ave, Wetaskiwin, will be gathering to learn about Residential Schools, to make a craft, to plant a garden, to remember, and to share a simple meal together. Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Edmonton is looking for someone to come and serve with them as Children and Families Ministry Coordinator. This individual should be passionate about nurturing the spiritual growth of children and young people, building relationships and developing programming that helps them to journey deeper into the mystery and love of God. The position is part-time (10-12 hours per week) with required shifts on Sundays and the remainder of work hours negotiable. The coordinator reports to the rector.
