Bishop Postpones Resignation
My dear brothers and sisters, In the light of the current situation, I will not be giving my formal resignation to our Metropolitan Archbishop Greg Kerr-Wilson in April. Although it had been my intention to leave at the end of July, I would not feel right in leaving the diocese at this time. Therefore, I will stay in place until at least December 31, 2020, and we will see where we are at in the fall. |

Caring for Ourselves and Each Other
Bishop Jane has advised that all non-essential gatherings, such as coffee-hours, potlucks and concerts, be postponed until April. Video-conferencing, such as Skype and Zoom, should be used in place of face-to-face meetings and Bible studies. Consider making Bible study reflections available on Facebook or other digital platforms. When serving meals to vulnerable folk or running a food bank depot, please be extra vigilant about hand-washing and hand-sanitizing. Be mindful of volunteers and their own health and wellbeing. "Now is probably the time to divide the parish lists into phone groups so you and vestry can make sure everyone gets a weekly call to see how they are doing."

Stolen Lands, Strong HeartsDocumentary showing at Philospher's Café On Sunday, March 1, Christ Church Edmonton hosted a regular and popular event, The Philosopher’s Café, which offers an opportunity to explore many topics surrounding the Christian faith today. The focus on this occasion was the showing of Doctrine of Discovery: Stolen Lands, Strong Hearts. Dr. Stephen Martin led the discussion and sends this summary of the evening: The turnout was not as strong as other Philosopher’s Café gatherings (about 15 as opposed to 40). However, the response was very positive. We discussed some of the striking images in the documentary that captured the original relationship between the Creator, the land, and the aboriginal peoples. We also shared the gifts we could offer the process of healing and reconciliation, and for the most part those gifts were gifts of listening in silence. We also thought about Lent as a time of repentance, and the call of the film to examine settler relations with aboriginal peoples and the land in a time of global crisis was especially poignant. Finally, the film made us even more appreciative of the work of Nick Trussell on helping the church become aware of the gifts of aboriginal people, and to become aware of being “treaty people.” For more infomation visit:
